A local council's housing services in the United Kingdom seeks a dedicated professional to help end rough sleeping. Do you want to help end rough sleeping in Cambridge? Do you want to join a team that has an excellent track record of helping rough sleepers into accommodation? By joining the Council’s Housing Advice Service you will be working toward our aim of ending rough sleeping within the city.
The ideal candidate will have or quickly develop an excellent understanding of helping vulnerable people into accommodation and a good grasp of housing & homelessness law. Training will be provided.
The role may involve occasional early starts with our Street Outreach colleagues to identify and help rough sleepers in Cambridge. You will negotiate with landlords, influence rough sleepers to make realistic housing choices, and work as part of a wider team with significant freedom to make decisions and show initiative.

This specialist role provides comprehensive housing options, choice‑based lettings (CBL), housing advice and homelessness prevention casework to members of the public with a history of rough sleeping or at risk of such. The post holder will deliver the Council’s statutory homelessness functions, assess customers’ needs, agree personal housing plans, respond to immediate homelessness situations, make key statutory decisions and issue formal notifications.
The post holder will also support the rough sleeping cohort through the application process, recruit colleagues and other professionals to offer accommodation support, advise on related services such as debt and employment advice, and address root causes of homelessness. The role will involve close work with the Street Outreach Team, Street‑to‑Home partnership and Rough Sleeping Initiative funded services.
37 hours per week. Monday – Friday. Fixed‑term contract of 12 months. Salary £37,280 – £41,771 per annum (City Pay Band 5), pro‑rated for part time.
This is a semi‑flexible role – you will work in Cambridge in homeless services, at one of our offices, or from home, balancing location as appropriate.
