About the opportunity

Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20‑year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high‑value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site‑wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

The Project

The Sellafield Product and Residue Store Retreatment Plant (SRP), being delivered by the Programme and Project Partners (PPP), will safely receive all special nuclear material packages from existing storage locations across the Sellafield site before retreating them into new 100‑year packages for safe storage. The SRP facility will enable all special nuclear material to remain safe and secure in its store into the next century and beyond and therefore plays a key role in delivering Sellafield’s purpose to create a clean and safe environment for future generations.

The Role

We are now recruiting for a Highways Engineer to support the team in Cumbria. As a Highways Engineer, your duties could include:

  • Being responsible for day‑to‑day management of civil designers and supporting the Civil Lead in planning and delivery of work. Includes reporting on progress in terms of time and costs.
  • Undertaking the civil design of all highways and external finishing.
  • Leading the civil designers to develop the 3D model and produce 2D AutoCAD GA and detail drawings.
  • Writing specifications for Highways, earthworks and external finishing as the design progresses through Preliminary and Detailed Design.
  • Attending and inputting to Design Review meetings as required.
  • Fulfilling the Designer role under the CDM (2015) Regulations.

As a Highways Engineer, you will already have:

  • A Civil Engineering degree and ideally be a Chartered Engineer or local equivalent.
  • In‑depth experience in all aspects of highways and external finishing design including concrete hardstanding.
  • Experience in using civil design software – ideally Civil 3D and 2D AutoCAD. Familiar with BIM.
  • Ideally some nuclear experience but if not, in a similar industrial field.
  • Experience managing design resources, planning and managing delivery, chairing meetings, managing stakeholders or a desire to expand into this area.
  • Comfortable working in multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in design for UK highways / external works schemes. Ideally familiar with relevant UK codes / Eurocodes where applicable, UK regulations e.g. CDM (2015), and DMRB and MCHW.
Our Culture

Our values are built on a strong foundation of safety, integrity, and respect for every individual. People are at the heart of our mission, and we believe in supporting one another through a culture of care and collaboration.

We strive to create a workplace where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. Supporting mental wellbeing and fostering a sense of connection are essential to how we work.

When we embrace different perspectives and work together, we become more innovative, more agile, and more successful.
