Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist

The Access to Mental Wellbeing Team are looking to appoint a Band 8a Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist to work as part of our multi‑disciplinary team.

Applicants will be required to have post‑graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS and be registered in as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC. Significant experience and competencies in delivering and supervising evidence‑based psychological intervention for SMHP is also essential.

Main duties of the job

A key part of the role_attr is to provide direct clinical work, promote psychological thinking with all members of the team by helping staff to develop formulations for clients, offering supervision and joint work with the team, supporting staff wellbeing and providing training in psychological theory and its implementation.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of working psychologically with people who experience severe mental health problems and competencies in an evidence‑based psychological therapy for SMHP. They will contribute to the collective clinical leadership of the service. They will be responsible for the provision of specialist psychological assessment and formulation, and the delivery of evidence‑based psychological therapy and clinical supervision. The post holder will contribute to service development and improvement within the locality and the professional leadership of psychological professions.

Qualifications
  • Post‑graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees

Experience
  • Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings
  • Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care coordinator within the context of a multidisciplinary team
  • Teaching, training and clinical supervision and field supervisor for doctoral theses.
  • Research and developmentExperience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
Knowledge and Skills
  • Doctoral level knowledge of evidence‑based practice relevant to the role
  • Doctoral level knowledge of risk assessment and risk management
