About The Role

You're accountable for the successful mobilisation, deployment, and commercial delivery of specified heavy overhaul projects. The role of a Heavy Maintenance Manager involves overseeing and planning for a major upcoming overhaul programme for an EMU fleet due to start in 2027.

Here's some of what you'll be doing
  • Support the bid team or alternative contracting party as required with input to support
  • Lead the mobilisation and management for heavy maintenance projects, including development of deliverables such as resource plans, work breakdown structures, tooling requirements, risk register, Bill of Material(s), Specification Review – all in accordance with company Heavy Maintenance Mobilisation procedure.
  • Manage customer interfaces including the leading of Contract Review Meetings
  • Develop/document internal systems, processes, procedures, and reporting mechanisms providing clear control.
  • Develop effective internal and external working relationships that deliver all key elements of Heavy Maintenance contracts.
  • Ensure all work undertaken is in line with customer, technical and legislative standards, and specifications.
  • Establish safe systems of work in accordance with relevant customer, business, or legislative standards.
  • Development and interaction with Project Managers, Engineers, and Planners to support heavy maintenance projects
  • Provision of regular management information and Key Performance Indicators that report of key project deliverables
  • Team Leadership: Coordinating stakeholders, ensuring effective working relationships, and providing regular updates on progress towards key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Continuous Improvement: Driving continuous improvement initiatives, understanding new stakeholder opportunities, and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensuring all projects adhere to safety standards, risk assessments, and company procedures.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate logs of maintenance, inspections, and repairs, and ensuring compliance with engineering codes and organisational policies.
About you
  • Strong Programme Management and reporting skills are essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management and coordination is critical.
  • This role requires a strong understanding of rail vehicle maintenance, depot operations, and production efficiency techniques. It is a safety-critical position that demands excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Experience – involvement & understanding of rail vehicle maintenance with an understanding of depot operations. You will have the ability to interpret engineering drawings and a good understanding of production efficiency techniques.
  • Experience of delivering an OH and managing the associated material supply chains is expected.
