Job Description

As Head of Public Relations for Shoptalk, you will be responsible for shaping and amplifying the brand’s voice across global media channels. This is a key role in building visibility, credibility, and thought leadership for the full portfolio of Shoptalk and Groceryshop events. You will work closely with internal marketing, content, and leadership teams, as well as with our PR agency partners, to drive awareness and engagement across media, influencers, and strategic partners.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies to elevate Shoptalk’s profile across leading business, retail, and technology media in the UK, Europe, and the US.
  • Manage relationships with Shoptalk’s PR agency partners, ensuring alignment on goals, messaging, and media outreach.
  • Position Shoptalk’s leadership as industry thought leaders through earned media, interviews, and authored content.
  • Oversee PR planning and media engagement for events in the portfolio (excluding Shoptalk Spring), including press conferences, media briefings, and executive roundtables.
  • Monitor and report on media coverage, sentiment, and performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for ongoing improvement.
  • Lead all media and influencer partnership programmes, including collaborations with key industry publishers and content creators.
  • Build mutually beneficial partnerships with media platforms (e.g., Industry Dive, Emarketer) and influencers for event promotion and editorial coverage.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment across all media and influencer activity.
  • Collaborate with the Shoptalk marketing and content teams to integrate PR initiatives within wider brand and campaign strategies.
  • Coordinate with event operations and sponsorship teams to ensure media logistics are efficiently managed on‑site.
  • Work closely with Hyve Group’s Communications Director to align messaging and maximise opportunities for positive PR that elevates Hyve’s overall corporate profile.
  • Manage the PR and media partnership budget effectively, ensuring maximum return on investment and value creation.
  • Set and track KPIs across earned and partner media to measure performance and inform future strategy.
Requirements
  • 10+ years’ experience in public relations, communications, or media strategy, ideally within the events, retail, or technology sectors.
  • Proven success in managing PR agencies and delivering high-impact media campaigns.
  • Established relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers within business, retail, and innovation media.
  • A strong understanding of integrated marketing and the role PR plays in driving event attendance and brand growth.
  • Track record in structuring and delivering media partnerships that yield measurable results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that cut through a competitive marketplace.
  • Experience in managing budgets and reporting against performance metrics.
