Job description
Overview

Head of Operations role at Senior Flexonics – Lymington Precision Engineers. Accountable for world class manufacturing operations, working collaboratively with the senior leadership team to place the customer at the heart of everything we do and achieve overall business success through operational excellence. As a strong leader, coach and mentor, the Head of Operations is responsible for all production and planning activities, along with machine maintenance and for maintaining an effective and engaged operations workforce.

Dayshift - Monday to Thursday 8.15am to 5.00pm and Friday 8.30am to 1.00pm with 30-minute unpaid break for lunch.

Base pay range

Location: Gosport Street, Lymington SO41 9EE. Working pattern: 37.5hrs per week. Closing date: 23 May 2025. Job Vacancy – Head of Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Delivering excellence in operational performance by guiding a committed workforce to maximise profitability and improve efficiencies.
  • Establishing a culture of continuous business improvement to support rollout and sustainment of the Senior Operating System.
  • Translating the Senior/LPE vision and strategic plans into defined, cost-effective operational plans with challenging and meaningful goals for managers and teams.
  • Ensuring adherence to production schedules and delivery of products to the correct specification, quality and cost to meet customer requirements.
  • Shaping And Realising LPE Strategy, Including
  • Work with the senior leadership team to drive growth and deliver on new opportunities, balancing the overall picture with attention to detail.
  • Deliver strategic plans in operations and through change management; establish processes and disciplines to enable increases in site operational performance and throughput.
  • Work with the Senior Leadership Team to generate CAPEX business cases and overall strategic direction of the company.
  • Maintain strong links and relationships with key customers and stakeholders.
  • Leading And Motivating People, Including
  • Provide outstanding leadership to direct reports, including effective communications, coaching, development and appraisal to maximise engagement, work output and quality.
  • Develop the manufacturing organisation into an effective team with a common vision focused on the customer.
  • Oversee deployment of a highly utilised and skilled workforce, reinforcing links between manufacturing excellence, customer focus, and meeting deadlines.
  • Lead managers to ensure the workforce is clear, capable, flexible, accountable and motivated.
  • Manage change effectively and drive cross-department collaboration to improve processes.
  • Setting And Achieving High Standards, Including
  • Active involvement in H&S committee; ensure safe operations and a safe working environment in line with Senior standards.
  • Manage operational costs within budget; collaborate with supply chain, quality and engineering to improve processes and reduce costs.
  • Regularly report operational KPIs and action plans to drive improvements.
  • Effective project management, driving timelines, monitoring costs, and meeting customer needs.
Key skills and experience
  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK (Essential).
  • Proven track record of leading operations in a manufacturing environment, inspiring others and modeling senior-level values and behaviours.
  • Experience enabling effective cross-department collaboration.
  • Formal Lean and Continuous Improvement training; track record of implementing lean and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Experience in a low volume, batch machine shop environment.
  • Commercially and financially astute with strong KPI understanding and direction-setting abilities.
  • Engineering experience including milling, turning, grinding and EDM machining operations; knowledge of machine toll TPM planning.
  • Proficient with ERP systems; willingness to use and improve systems and processes.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback; proactive in seeking improvement and taking initiative.
  • Strategic perspective and change leadership; ability to align actions with the bigger picture.
  • Resilience under pressure and tight timelines; strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Computer literacy: proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Qualifications
  • HNC in Mechanical or Production Engineering (Essential).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Essential).
  • Degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience (Desirable).
  • Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership (Desirable).
  • IOSH Managing Safely at Work (Desirable).
  • Security Clearance (Desirable).
