Job description

Our Head of Construction is responsible for the future strategy of the Construction proposition to market, encompassing the consolidation of the separate business units into a fit for future operating model, the trading performance and growth strategy and the ongoing attraction of talent and colleague development. You will build out and develop Construction offerings across all relevant areas within the Ardonagh Group and to compliment this with business sourced from Third Party brokers.

What will you do as a Head of Construction:

This is an overview and not an exhaustive list of responsibilities. Collaborating with your line manager, you will develop your own objectives but focus on all the following.

  • Full P&L Responsibility.
  • Develop (in conjunction with the head of Technical) and execute an underwriting strategy for the Geo Construction specialism.
  • Ensure adherence to the technical pricing model and framework is in place (consisting of policy conditions, proposition, underwriting procedures) to maximise the selection of risks within appetite and establish processes to monitor business being underwritten.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve the underwriting footprint – for example, using external data to determine geographical risk, street pricing flexibility etc.
  • In conjunction with other functions (in particular, Pricing and Sales/Distribution) monitor the underwriting results (and other key metrics) of the portfolio – contributing to identifying and capturing growth opportunities and establishing remedial plans (where required).
  • Manage the “internal” Underwriting Governance Framework – including licensing, monitoring of QA activity (and subsequent actions), managing internal audits and the authority/binder breach processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring brokers with Sub Delegated Authority adhere to the relevant governance framework – which will include requirements relating to Quality Assurance, Regulation (for example, sanctions checks).
  • In conjunction with other functions, participate in new product innovation and existing product management that improves income and margin for the Construction business.
  • Lead the underwriting teams across applicable locations.
  • Develop and implement a future Target Operating Model for the Construction Underwriting function and support the development and implementation of other specialist divisions across the MGA.
  • As a member of the GEO leadership team, contribute towards the development and execution of the wider MGA strategy.

  • Experience within senior management roles in the UK Insurance sector
  • Wide exposure to all segments of the UK Retail and Wholesale insurance distribution
  • Senior level network within both intermediaries and insurers
  • Ideally educated to degree standard and/or ACII qualified
