A major roads organization is seeking an Engineer to join their Roads Asset Engineering Team. The successful candidate will lead the design and execution of various projects, including Pavement and Traffic Sign renewal, while ensuring health and safety compliance. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple locations in the North West region, so a full driving license is required. This position will allow you to contribute meaningfully to maintaining and enhancing the strategic road network in England.
Role in Roads Asset Engineering Team within Operations Directorate
Collaboration on Pav neste, Vehicle Restraint System, Fencing, Road Marking, and Traffic Sign renewal projects
Support in planning, development, and coordination of projects across North West region
Requirement to travel between Penrith, Preston, Manchester, Warrington offices and project sites
Need for full driving licence with no more than 3 points
Responsibilities include health and safety management, asset studies, technical support tillegg materials approvals
Degree or HND in relevant discipline and experience in highway infrastructure design required
National Highways are looking for a talented Engineer to become a key player in our Roads Asset Engineering Team, part of the Operations Directorate in the North West. In this role, you’ll collaborate with a skilled group of professionals to lead the design and execution of diverse Pavement, Vehicle Restraint System, Fencing, Road Marking and Traffic Sign renewal projects. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining and enhancing the strategic road network (SRN), ensuring it remains safe, efficient, and responsive to the evolving needs of our customers‑today and for years to come.
Throughout the planning and development stage of a project, you will support the activities and resources involved in the identification and development of early solutions for the pavement asset. Working with key stakeholders including project teams and third parties you will help coordinate works across the region, providing technical support and ensuring adherence to our defined asset class strategies, policies and standards. As a flexible working organisation we offer this role from our Penrith, Preston, Manchester and Warrington office. There will be a requirement to travel between our offices, the network and those of our stakeholders and partners. Please note that the role may also require work during unsociable hours.
You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
