Job summary

A chemical manufacturing company in the North East of England is seeking a Maintenance Technician with over 3 years of experience in a COMAH environment. Responsibilities include supervising maintenance teams, providing technical support, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Job description
Responsibilities
  • Expedites I, C & E maintenance activities at both sites safely and efficiently to agreed work plans, safety management systems and best working practices in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and Business Objectives.
  • Expedite ICE activities, planned and reactive, at either site, as directed, to ensure facilities are maintained in compliance with company processes and EH&S, design and maintenance standards.
  • Supervise and assist maintenance team members, support staff and contractors in day-to-day maintenance activities on site (including Haz Area inspection and testing, isolation of power sources, etc.).
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to company personnel in electrical matters, including breakdowns.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of site-wide maintenance programmes and procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge and competency in electrical standards and best practice.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the maintenance operation.
  • Assist with planning and management of electrical elements of maintenance turnarounds.
  • Assist with the control and coordination of spare parts and the optimisation of stock levels.
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance records are kept up to date to facilitate data analysis for reliability improvements; complete CMMS, Hazardous Area Inspection, Fixed Wiring, earth continuity reports on a timely basis, checking data for accuracy and updating as appropriate.
  • Participate in improvement and review initiatives as required (e.g. E&I Compliance Team, incident investigations & hazard reviews).
  • Prepare technical reports as required.
  • Comply with safe work systems and maintenance procedures.
  • Participate conscientiously as a team member in department call‑out rota, sharing duties and responding to call‑outs as and when applicable.
Qualifications
  • Ideal candidate would have 3+ years relevant experience in a maintenance role on a COMAH upper tier chemical manufacturing plant.
  • As a minimum, the successful candidate should have a recognised apprenticeship or electrical qualification.
  • CompEx training and qualification preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices and working knowledge of I&C systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (e.g. loop diagrams & P&IDs).
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues and Codes of Practice relevant to the industry, including COSHH, LOLER, PUWER, DSEAR, CompEx, BS7671 and IEC61511.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK and have a full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, self‑motivated with a good team ethic.
