The SWB Pharmacy team seeks enthusiastic and ambitious Rotational Pharmacy Assistants to rotate across the brand new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, the new Sheldon Block Pharmacy and Sandwell Health Campus Pharmacy.

Band 3 – Rotational Pharmacy Assistant

If you possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) and are offered this position, you will enter at Band 3. This role is suitable for experienced dispensers from community pharmacy or pharmacy assistants from a hospital pharmacy background.

Band 2 – Pharmacy Assistant to Band 3 development opportunity

Applicants without NVQ Level 2 will be offered a Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant position in Stores and Distribution. Completion of our in‑house Stores and Distribution Training pack and obtaining an NVQ Level 2 qualification will enable progression to Band 3.

Main duties of the job

Main duties for Band 3 (requiring NVQ Level 2):

• Rotate into Dispensary and Clinical Ward Services.

Main duties for Band 2 Stores & Distribution (without NVQ Level 2):

• Based in Pharmacy Stores & Distribution areas.
• Receipting and booking of pharmacy deliveries.
• Ensure goods are stored safely and in correct locations, following stock control principles.
• Load stock into the pharmacy robot and assist with troubleshooting basic errors (post training).
• Maintain cold chain for refrigerated/freezer items and report breaches.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment; ensure equipment is used safely in line with Health and Safety regulations.
• Top up medications in Automated Drug Cabinets on wards.
• Pick and process medication requests for hospital ward/clinic areas.
• Note: this role is not a dispensary based role and does not involve dispensing.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy services (or equivalent) – Band 3.
• Working towards NVQ Level 2 – Band 3.
• Proficient in reading and writing to at least GCSE standard.
• Ability to present written and verbal information clearly.

Experience

• Experience as an assistant or community-based dispenser (Band 3).
• Safe handling of pharmaceutical equipment and medicines.
• Experience working within a pharmaceutical team.
• Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of HASAW and COSHH regulations.
• Understanding of legal requirements for dispensing and supplying medicines (Band 3).
• Portfolio reflecting personal development.
• Good command of English, both spoken and written.
• Ability to provide patient advice on medicines.
• Capability to empathise with patients, carers, visitors and staff.
