Job description

We’re looking for a Site Engineer to join our KierBam JV project at Devonport Dockyard based in Plymouth, Devon. KierBAM is a Joint Venture partnership between Kier and Bam Nuttall, and we are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site.

Site based, Plymouth, Devon

Hours

Permanent 45 hours per week

Security Clearance

Due to the site being a high‑security military naval base, additional security checks will need to be made – BPSS level of security clearance is required. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last 5 years may be considered for this role.

Responsibilities

As a Site Engineer you will work within the Nuclear team, supporting them in delivering the redevelopment project at the Dockyard.

Your day‑to‑day will include:

• Assist in the recording and testing of workmanship and materials, e.g., drainage, concrete, piling, brickwork, etc.
• Assist in providing engineering support to ensure technical problems are overcome and technical queries are answered.
• Be responsible for setting out works constructed within allowable tolerances.
• Regularly check the setting‑out points and benchmarks, and ensure all setting‑out instruments and measuring equipment are delivered to site with a calibration certificate and recorded accordingly.
• Maintain setting‑out and dimensional control to ensure accurate construction of the work.

What We Are Looking For

This role of Site Engineer is great for you if you:

• Hold a degree qualification in civil engineering or an equivalent – for example: BSc, BA, BEng, MEng, EngTech, MICE, TIStructE, LCIBSE, LCIBSEEngTech, or completion of a Higher Apprenticeship.
• Are familiar with Leica survey equipment (GPS, Total Station, optical & digital levels) for setting‑out and survey.
• Have experience in a similar role.
