RED are an expanding international M&E consultancy, with a proven track record in low energy design, focused on providing excellent design solutions to clients. We now seek a Senior CDM Principal Designer to be based out of our London or Bicester office.
Overview
Role: Senior CDM Principal Designer
Location: London or Bicester, UK
Role Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and monitor the Pre-Construction phase, and coordinate Health & Safety as the Principal Designer.
- Fulfil the duties of the Principal Designer as defined under CDM 2015, including acting as CDM-Advisor to support the client when necessary.
- Ensure coordination among client, designers, contractors and internal team members, and verify duties are complied with.
- Assist the client in identifying, obtaining and collating pre-construction information; provide this information to duty holders and relevant parties.
- Ensure designers comply with their duties and cooperate with each other.
- Undertake and coordinate safety by design reviews and produce a meaningful Design Risk Assessment.
- Attend client meetings, advise on Health & Safety guidelines, and guide the Design team and client through Health & Safety requirements and RIBA Stages.
- Liaise with client representatives, Principal Contractor and contractors regarding health and safety.
- Review Principal Contractors information, including the Construction Phase Health & Safety plan; prepare the Health & Safety file; submit F10 on behalf of the client; undertake CDM site audits and lessons learned workshops; review and identify surveys required.
- Produce and issue fee schedules and be responsible for project reporting internally; manage internal project reporting on progress and invoicing support.
Role Requirements
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role with a focus on Construction Design Management.
- Data Centre and/or large-scale infrastructure project experience.
- Stable career background.
- Knowledge of MEP building services is useful.
- NEBOSH Diploma beneficial; experience of construction site safety.
- Experience with appropriate H&S procedures in an engineering consultancy environment in construction.
- Working knowledge of the UK Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and their applicability to design consultants in the built environment.
- Understanding of risk assessment and mitigation methods.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
- Experience with international consultancy is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of H&S issues and legislation; ability to apply to design risk workshops at all RIBA stages.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Good understanding of British Standards.
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work on own initiative; ability to manage multiple projects.
- Fluent English (essential); other languages desirable.
- Chairing/facilitation and group training delivery capability for CDM and designer duties.
- Working knowledge of CDM, PUWER, COSHH, LOLER, MHSWR, BSA Regulations; ability to coordinate with designers and contractors; delivery of contract and program management.
- Ethical conduct and alignment with the Ethics Charter and Guidelines.
- Background in consulting or construction preferred; good understanding of H&S in an international business/consultancy environment.
