About the Role (External)

Our technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and the team’s operatives. Technicians specialise in a range of disciplines; for this role you’ll become a specialist in Track (P-Way).

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, inspect and repair the track network (Permanent Way) to keep the railway safe and efficient.
  • Work outdoors in all conditions, often in challenging environments, transporting kit across difficult terrain.
  • Collaborate with a team, remain safety-focused, and operate next to moving trains travelling at high speed.
  • Younger team members may be guided by the team leader; you’ll help ensure the team has the right competencies to meet safety standards and model safe working behaviours.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Leadership – able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
  • Effective communicator – strong communication skills to deliver clear instructions.
  • Technical skills – knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the applicable discipline.
  • Safety – models safe behaviours, can implement safe systems of work, and challenges unsafe situations.
  • Problem solving – persistent in finding safe and effective solutions; keeps skills up to date with new standards, procedures and instructions.
  • Willingness to learn – continuously develops skills and keeps up to date with standards and procedures.
  • Relevant qualification – NVQ Level 1 or 2 (or equivalent experience) related to the discipline.
Additional Information
  • Shifts – Role involves a changing pattern including days, nights and weekends.
  • Outdoor working – Comfortable working in different weather conditions.
  • Safe working – Pre-employment checks include drug/alcohol testing, medical assessment, and BPSS; hearing and eyesight examinations may be required.
  • Driving – Driving licence (category B) required to drive Network Rail vehicles.
  • Commute – Within a 60-minute commute of the location you’re applying for.
