Job Summary

This role will design and evolve highly scalable, data-intensive systems that power a B2B e-commerce platform for multiple business units. This role focuses on building resilient architectures that can handle large data volumes, complex business rules, and continuously changing requirements, while supporting long-term platform growth.

You will work closely with development team, product, and business stakeholders to translate evolving needs into pragmatic, scalable technical solutions. You will derive architectural frameworks to support business functional and non-functional requirements.

The role requires continual interaction with development teams to ensure designs evolve products in ways that minimize debt and maximize product maintainability, sustainability, and extensibility.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and evolve scalable, highly available architectures capable of handling large datasets, high transaction volumes, and peak traffic.
  • Define architecture for B2B e-commerce domains including catalog, pricing, orders, customers, invoicing, and integrations.
  • Make architectural decisions on system decomposition, including monolith vs microservices, service boundaries, and data ownership.
  • Design for extensibility and change, enabling the platform to adapt to evolving business models and requirements.
  • Define data architecture and strategies, including database design, data isolation, caching, scaling, and performance optimization.
  • Ensure data consistency, integrity, security, and reliability across distributed systems.
  • Partner closely with Product Strategy and Product Management to translate business needs and non-functional requirements into architectural solutions.
  • Provide architectural direction and design principles to engineering teams; review and guide high-level system designs.
  • Establish and maintain architectural standards, security and authentication requirements, and technology guidelines.
  • Document product architectures as living artifacts, including principles, patterns, key mechanisms, and interfaces.
  • Evaluate, prototype, and introduce new technologies and platforms where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with tech leads to identify, manage, and reduce technical debt.
  • Work with other architects to drive system-level architecture alignment across the organization.
Required Skills
  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant time in architecture roles.

Type: Full-time, Temporary - 1 year
Salary: 93,000 - 110,000CAD
This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.
