Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join our well-established, three-branch small animal practice on the outskirts of Edinburgh, based primarily at our main surgery in Musselburgh.

You’ll enjoy a varied and rewarding role with a healthy balance of surgery and consultations, managing both routine and emergency cases and carrying out comprehensive diagnostic workups in-house. From digital and dental X-ray to ultrasound, endoscopy and laparoscopic equipment, you’ll have access to a wide range of tools to support high clinical standards and case continuity.

Rota pattens that work for you

Our people are at the heart of everything that we do, that’s why we know that work-life balance is vital in supporting our people to be their best selves. Our flexible approach to rota patterns and working hours offers a balance that truly flexes with you and your lifestyle no matter what stage you are in your career.

We are seeking a full-time vet to work 40 hours per week over four days, although part-time and flexible working applications will also be considered. This role is based on a 4 day working week made up of 10-hour shifts, helping to support a strong work-life balance. You’ll take part in a 1 in 7 weekend rota (daytime only) and receive a day off in lieu the following week. There are no out-of-hours requirements, as OOH is outsourced locally.

Our team & facilities

Our Musselburgh practice is a modern, well-equipped site offering digital and dental X-ray, ultrasound (including echocardiography), an in-house laboratory, endoscopy, and laparoscopic surgery. We also provide advanced procedures such as orthopaedic surgery and laparoscopic spays, supported by a visiting orthopaedic vet.

You’ll be joining a genuinely collaborative team of experienced and recently qualified vets, skilled RVNs, and a dedicated reception and administration team. The wider Gordon Vets group includes 16 vets, 12 RVNs, and an 11-strong reception team, creating a supportive environment where knowledge-sharing and development are part of everyday practice

We are here to help you succeed

Located just outside Edinburgh, Musselburgh offers the best of both worlds — easy access to city life alongside beautiful coastal walks and open countryside. We’re proud of our loyal client base and our reputation for providing friendly, high-quality patient care.

At Gordon Vets, our culture is built around teamwork, approachability, and continuous improvement. Management value new ideas, CPD is actively encouraged, and daily team catch-ups over tea and a paid one-hour lunch break help keep communication open and the working day enjoyable.

We recognise that our people are fundamental to the success of our business. Investing in our people, premises and processes is at the heart of what we do. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will benefit from -
