The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Lighting/Electrical Engineer to join our Consulting Energy, Lighting & Technology Practice. This is a hybrid opportunity and we welcome applications from across the following regions: Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, Manchester, Cardiff, York and Edinburgh.

Amey Consulting is a design partner supporting National Highways in the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme ever launched. The £3.6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) enables National Highways to procure design and construction services across the Strategic Road Network. We also work on National Highways frameworks such as SPaTS2, OTCF and ITCF and are expanding opportunities in the technology arena.

Our Local Authority business currently provides design resources for large LED upgrade programmes and ongoing design work for local authorities, supporting lighting designs for S38, S278, highway improvement schemes and electric vehicle strategy and design.

The role

As a Senior Lighting/Electrical Engineer at Amey Consulting, you’ll see your work from early design to the final outcome, and each project will be unique. You’ll be challenged to grow your skills, and we’ll support your career development through further qualification and learning opportunities.

You will be responsible for or assist with:

  • Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief.
  • Undertaking a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance.
  • Implementing effective, value-for-money, innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements.
  • Progressing projects through preliminary and detailed design with an emphasis on client requirements, ensuring innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable.
  • Driving effective health and safety practices within your team.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
  • Supervising, mentoring and developing team members.
  • Assisting with contract preparation together with project planning and programming.
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager, including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets, inspection work, feasibility studies and cost estimating for works and fees.
  • Supporting the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.
  • Managing and responding to project‑related correspondence.
  • Checking compliance with the integrated management system and assisting in its development.
  • Preparing technical reports such as Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports.
  • Developing engineering solutions and presenting engineering options.
  • Working with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions are suitable for buildability and maintainability.
  • Keeping up to date with personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team and progression with your chosen professional institution.
What you will bring to us
  • You have made progress towards completion of a formal professional training programme with an appropriate professional body.
  • You can demonstrate experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent.
  • You can produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working under supervision.
  • You are experienced in following procedures associated with health, safety and welfare.
  • You can comply with technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment.
