An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious candidate to join the Pharmacy team in the Sterile Production Unit and Clinical trials department at Queens Medical Centre at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). You will be joining a team of hardworking and dedicated professionals who formulate, prepare and dispense medicines for our most vulnerable patients and external customers, whilst also helping to facilitate, deliver and conduct clinical trials at NUH.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the summary below you need to familiarise yourself with the full job description and person specification. This interesting and varied role will require you to work in both the sterile production unit and clinical trials department. The work will be varied and challenging, working to tight deadlines to achieve targets and respond to patient and customer needs. You should be able work under pressure, prioritise and organise workloads and be able to work alone or as part of a bigger team. We are looking for confident self-motivated individuals with excellent IT, communication, problem solving and decision making skills. You will need to be able to work unsupervised in all aspects of sterile batch production, specialist aseptic dispensing activities, clinical trial material preparation, CIVAS activities, cytotoxic reconstitution services and Neonatal, Paediatric and Adult PN, working in a cleanroom environment to manufacture complex medicines in isolators and laminar air flow cabinets. Working in the trial dispensary, you will be trained to accurately label, dispense and manage clinical trial drugs whilst effectively communicating to service users and the multidisciplinary team.

Training & Qualifications
  • Possession of, or willing to undertake, or complete NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) including relevant modules for this post.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (grade C) or above in Maths and English Language
  • To be able to learn new skills and knowledge and to implement these into standard practice to maintain competencies through validation
  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade 4 (grade C) in Science subjects, Biology or Chemistry
Experience
  • To be able to work as part of a team
  • Following strict procedures and guidelines
  • Evidence of IT experience
  • Hospital Pharmacy ATO or Community Pharmacy Assistant experience
  • Experience in a pharmacy production environment. Experience in aseptic production
  • Experience in stock control procedures

  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and electronically within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate that they are approachable and be able to relay information in a manner that others including service users, understand

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

  • Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations and screening tests as relevant to the post.   • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post may be subject to a DBS check which incurs a cost depending on the level of check required (£49.50 for enhanced and £21.50 for standard).
