Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Electrified Automation, Unit 4 Beech Business Park, Bridgwater, Somerset
The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role within our manufacturing team, improving existing processes and introducing new ones to maintain our high standards of product quality.
This role is critical to ensuring smooth production flow by resolving on-line
issues through best-practice problem-solving and root cause analysis, followed by the
implementation of effective, innovative manufacturing solutions.
With a continuous improvement mindset, the Manufacturing Engineer will strive to enhance
all aspects of the facility’s operations, ensuring on-time, right-first-time delivery to our
customers.
In addition to driving process improvements, the role also involves taking
ownership of manufacturing project delivery, offering a varied and impactful scope of work.
What you will be doing as a Manufacturing Engineer:
- Process Development & Optimisation: Design, document and improve
manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce waste and ensure
consistent quality.
- Production Support: Provide day-to-day immediate technical support to production
staff to resolve process or equipment issues. Using our custom MES (manufacturing
execution system) to log and record all issues. Ensure compliance with relevant
Health and Safety standards, policies, and procedures.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality teams to identify and address quality
concerns, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Support Automation team with design and implement new / updates to equipment,
jigs, fixtures, and tooling to support new and existing manufacturing processes.
- Support Engineering team with ‘New Product Introduction’ (NPI): Support the
transition of new products from design to full-scale production, including process
validation and documentation.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives to continually
improve safety, quality, cost, and delivery metrics.
- Documentation & Standards: Compliance, maintain accurate process
documentation, work instructions and ensure compliance with industry standards
and internal procedures.
What we are looking for (essential skills):
- Degree or equivalent in manufacturing / process engineering.
- Ability and experience in process design and optimisation in:
– Medium to high volume production.
– Complex mechanical products.
– Automated equipment incorporating robotics.
– Manufacturing jigs & fixtures
– Bespoke equipment
- At least three years varied production experience including time in an SME.
- Knowledge and experience using GD&T, BS8888 & ISO2768
- Understanding of PFMEA and PPAP processes.
- Use of office365 software.
- Experience in using lean manufacturing principles.
- Track record in using Six Sigma tools & methodologies for root cause analysis and
statistical process control.
- Practical skills, hands-on experience using tools to fix equipment.
- Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills
What we are looking for (desired skills):
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 business.
- Designing jigs & fixtures using SolidWorks and PDM software.
- Experience with the following
– Operating robots (ideally ABB).
– PCBs and electronics products.
– Understanding and general use of PLC control system (Siemens).
– Plastic moulding processes.
– Welding processes.
