An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 8a Child Psychotherapist or Clinical

Psychologist to join our Parent Infant Mental Health Service; PAIRS in Bolton.

The role of the Child Psychotherapist / Clinical Psychologist is to ensure delivery and development of a high-quality parent infant mental health service which is underpinned by a psycho-analytical framework to compliment the range of psychological/therapeutic services within the multi-disciplinary service; working from families from conception up to the age of 2 years.

We are a small specialist team with extensive knowledge of early years. We are trained to work with parents and infants, and each team member is passionate about supporting families during this time in their lives. Our approach is to work alongside parents / carers and build supportive relationships whilst thinking how best to help identify and make changes to improve the parent-infant relationship. We support parents to recognise the many challenges that can influence and impact on the parent-infant bond and developing relationship, to allow for a stronger attachment. We provide assessment, consultation, training, groups, drop ins and individual interventions for parents/carers and infants, young children and their families. The core purpose of the team is to deliver high quality, tailored interventions in parent infant mental health underpinned by psychoanalytical based approaches to parents and infants.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation, from a psychodynamic perspective to other professionals, to assist in the formulation, diagnosis, management and treatment of clients.

To liaise with other health and social care staff, from a range of agencies, in the care provided to clients

To provide specialist psychotherapeutic assessments of referred families and identify collaboratively the most appropriate treatment for them in co-operation with other members of the multidisciplinary service,

Provide specialist / consultation to referrers/other multi-disciplinary staff in relation to the care of the parent – infant, often via consultation or training

Participate in the development / delivery of a programme of training for other professional groups working in parent infant mental health service

Lead on programmes of audit and research within the team and implement the findings.

Person specification
  • Masters level preclinical training at a Association of Child Psychotherapists recognised training school; – post graduate doctoral level training in clinical child psychotherapy at a training school accredited by the Association of Child Psychotherapy or Association of Child Psychotherapists Statement of Equivalence OR Doctoral level Clinical Psychology accredited by BPS / HCPC
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in relevant fields in health, social care or education settings 2 years post qualifying experience

  • Experience of specialist psychotherapeutic assessment and treatment of families as a full member of a multidisciplinary team located in community, primary care, outpatient or inpatient setting .
