The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for an SHEQ Engineer. You can be based out of either the Adlington or Sunderland office with travel to sites as required.
The SHEQ Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety (SHEQ) management systems are effectively implemented, maintained, and continuously improved within the organisation. This role ensures compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and company policies while promoting a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and quality excellence.
You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of SHEQ management systems.
- Monitor incident and event reporting, ensuring timely updates and insights feed into the monthly board report.
- Maintain, review, and report on man hours and other operational KPIs.
- Support collation of annual ESG reporting.
- Communicate SHEQ learnings across business units to promote awareness and best practice.
- Conduct reviews of suppliers and tenders from a SHEQ perspective to safeguard standards.
- Maintain accreditation status for online subscriptions and monitor legislation updates to ensure internal practices remain current.
- Lead and support investigations into incidents, ensuring robust root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation supporting CDM projects and the wider QMS.
- Support the setting, monitoring, and reporting of SHEQ objectives and annual impact/aspect reviews.
- Lead and assist in audits, risk assessments, and track corrective actions from internal and external inspections.
- Collaborate with client SHE professionals on joint site inspections and audits.
- Support project audit schedules and conduct CDM reviews, ensuring timely close-out of agreed action points.
- Where necessary, expedite suppliers to ensure dates are met.
- Preparation and maintenance of inspection test plans and non-conformance reports.
- Participate in project meetings to communicate progress and issues.
- Contribute to project lessons-learned processes and documentation, including CPPs, pre-construction information packs, H&S files, contractor inductions, traffic and waste management plans, and audit schedules.
- Log, monitor and track SHEQ data to and drive to completion.
- Support Project teams in logging, reviewing and closing out SHEQ issues with corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct internal audits, manage nonconformities, and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance product and process quality.
- Ensure operational compliance with ISO 14001 and environmental regulations.
- Conduct environmental risk assessments and ensure proper waste handling and disposal.
- Ensure operational compliance with ISO 45001 and Safety regulations.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to mitigate hazards.
- Promote safe work practices and deliver training to enhance awareness.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and occupational injuries, ensuring accurate reporting and corrective actions.
- Support the Health & Safety Committee.
- Maintain the training matrix, including e-learning compliance.
- Maintain records and documentation for audits and regulatory inspections.
- Support certification renewals and external audits.
- Act as a key liaison between management, employees, and external authorities on SHEQ matters.
The job holder will have:
- Experience in a SHEQ or similar engineering role.
- HNC/HND qualified in an Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Understanding of engineering drawings and specifications.
- An understanding of Mechanical and Fabricated assemblies, welding & NDT standards and processes.
- Certification in Safety - NEBOSH or similar.
- Available to travel as required.
- Proficient in MS Office and familiarity with SHEQ reporting tools/software.
- Completed the required company induction into this role.
