Job summary

A local government body in the UK seeks two part-time Learning Support Assistants to help deliver a four-week employability program for young adults. You will support tutors and assist learners with additional needs while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. Overview

Fixed Term for 12 months, Part Time 24 hours per week:

  • Week 1 - 28 hours per week (9am–4pm)
  • Week 2 - 28 hours per week (9am–4pm)
  • Week 3 - 28 hours per week (9am–4pm)
  • Week 4 - 28 hours per week (9am–4pm)
  • Week 5 (planning week) - 5 hours

Location: Courses run currently in Knowle and Hartcliffe, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, followed by a planning week where you are required to attend 1 x 5-hour team meeting.

We are recruiting 2 x Learning Support Assistants (LSA) to work alongside the Employability Course Tutors to support young adults (aged 17–21) taking part in our four‑week employability programme.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Tutor to deliver a four‑week employability course (20 hours per week).
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to learners with additional needs.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.
  • Model positive behaviours, communication and practical skills.
  • Assist with classroom set‑up, resources, and digital tools.
  • Support learners to stay engaged, build confidence and work towards their goals.
  • Work with the Tutor and Career Coach to encourage progression into learning, volunteering or employment.
  • Work collaboratively with Youth Guarantee colleagues, partners and support staff.
About The Learners
  • Our learners are young adults who may:
  • Have few or no formal qualifications.
  • Be unemployed or Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).
  • Face multiple and complex barriers to work.
  • Have experienced trauma, mental health challenges, addiction or displacement.
  • Speak English as an additional language.
  • Need a calm, supportive space to build their confidence and skills.
What You’ll Need

We welcome people from all backgrounds, especially those with lived experience or insight into the challenges our young adults face.

  • Experience supporting people in learning, youth work, social care or similar settings.
  • A calm, patient, inclusive approach and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Confidence using digital tools.
  • An understanding of trauma‑informed practice, safeguarding and equality.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the role.
  • A teaching assistant qualification is welcomed but not essential.
