Job description
Overview

Flood Re is a unique company. We have a purpose that is set out in statute, but we need to deliver this in a fast-changing and uncertain environment. Our strategy needs to be dynamic and agile, but we are constrained by the necessity of ensuring our insurer members and Government partners understand the Scheme and the environment we are working with.

The role of the strategy function is to support Flood Re in achieving its purpose in a changing environment; this means identifying the drivers of change which affect Flood Re’s operations, understand their implications and articulating this internally and externally. This is for someone who likes a role which is intellectually stimulating, highly analytical and who can interpret large amounts of information while embracing inherent uncertainty.

The Corporate Strategy Lead will report directly into Flood Re’s Director of Policy and Government, but will also support the CEO, helping to identify, conceptualise and address strategic issues. The role will cover a wide range of initiatives to support Flood Re’s purpose and assist Flood Re in engaging our core stakeholders, particularly our insurer members, in achieving this purpose.

Responsibilities
  • Deputise Director of Policy and Government Affairs as necessary.
  • Support the CEO on core strategic projects, engagements and speeches.
  • Engage across the Senior Leadership Team to connect issues across different teams, articulate the consequences and lead programmes of work with a particular focus on the Board cycle.
  • Support the creation, evolution and execution of the corporate strategy, adapting as necessary to changing market, regulatory or public policy conditions.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Affairs team and Policy and Government Affairs team on explaining the Scheme to members and key stakeholders.
  • Proactively anticipate, identify and escalate potential risks and opportunities arising from a changing market landscape.
  • Advise senior management on key strategic communications to uphold a positive image and reputation for the organisation.
  • Design and implement programmes to create and maintain a positive image and reputation of the organisation to external stakeholders.
  • Represent Flood Re at political party conferences, events etc. Present where necessary.
  • Understand and contribute to all Flood Re communication initiatives, ensuring appropriate internal and external stakeholders are engaged, ensuring effective communications and building relationships with Parliament, Government, external organisations and across all parties.
Knowledge and Experience
  • An analytic mindset, attention to detail, an inquisitive mind and a rigorous approach.
  • The ability to understand, synthesise and explain complex financial frameworks.
  • 4+ years’ tenure in a recognised strategy consulting business or equivalent in-house strategy role.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of strategic problem solving and frameworks, and project management skills.
  • Ability to liaise with senior stakeholders, internal and external, and influence people of a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Experience in applying strategic frameworks and tools for analysing strategic problems and developing strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to establish credibility and strong relationships with senior stakeholders, particularly in the insurance sector.
  • Strong performance across a broad range of strategic engagements.
  • A strong understanding of the UK political and policy-making landscape coupled with a strong network.
  • Proven ability to translate strategy / complex material into clear communication plans and messaging.
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and deliver to deadlines.
  • Highly self-aware and committed to collaborative, collegiate ways of working.
