The Role

We are looking for a Court of Protection paralegal to join our well-established and fast-growing team.

Our Court of Protection and PI Trusts team has seen significant growth and quality in instructions due to the firm’s commitment to exceptional standards in client care and in our quest to maintain high standards, we have an opening for an excellent fee earner who is as passionate as we are about protecting our clients’ interests. The team’s niche focus is to act for clients who have suffered an acquired brain injury and who have then received a high level of damages to fund their extensive needs. This is a great opportunity for a paralegal who wishes to progress their career further and to grow with this firm.

The successful candidate will be working closely with the heads of department and other members of the team.

Core Duties

The following list includes the tasks required to fulfil the job role. This list is intended as a general guideline and is not exhaustive.

  • Assisting the Team Leaders with the processing of the Court of Protection/Trust files.
  • Assisting with client payments, monitoring client bank accounts and considering bank statements.
  • Updating clients where necessary & arranging/coordinating meetings.
  • Completing Court forms, and other forms/documents e.g. for benefits, insurances etc.
  • Reviewing client expenditure & updating internal budgets on client matters.
  • Maintaining the document management structure as set in the department procedures.
  • Filing – electronically and paper, where appropriate and generally keeping files up to date.
  • Making/taking phone calls and sending e-mails as requested, and maintaining a record by way of file note where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that cheque/Bacs/TT requests are dealt with in accordance with the firm’s procedures and the requirements of the SRA.
  • Time recording.
  • Other additional administrative duties that may be required from time to time.
  • File closing according to the firm’s procedures and the SRA requirements.
  • Generally ensuring compliance with the firm’s procedures, policies and office manual to include the firm’s policies on employment, anti-money laundering, use of IT, health & safety and client care.
  • Participating in training and keeping up to date in the practice areas of the department.
  • Participating in marketing activities for the department and wider business.
  • Accurate and methodical work.
  • Good time keeper.
  • Good interpersonal & organisational skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Work to high levels of accuracy & attention to detail.
  • Confident dealing with a wide range of people via telephone, email or face to face.
  • Professional telephone manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy office.
Required Experience, Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Previous experience working in an office-based environment
  • Background in legal work would be an advantage.
  • Confident working with Microsoft Office software (mainly Outlook, Excel & Word).
  • Familiar working with case management systems.
