Job summary

Job description

City Family CIC is looking for a Community Navigator who will provide first line information and guidance to parents, carers and their families, whilst co-facilitating workshops that focus on health and child development.

This varied, exciting role will see you link families to the community around them.

  • Salary: £26292 (FTE), actual subject to hours agreed
  • Hours: Part-time (16 hours per week) (FTE is 35)
  • Contract: Fixed term until March 2026
About the Role

This role will be working with communities, health and education partners to tackle the inequalities that impact happy, healthy child development through the facilitation of community drop-in sessions, workshops with parents/carers and by providing information and guidance.

Key Responsibilities
  • To facilitate drop in sessions across a range of community venues in South Essex. Aimed at parents/carers with children under 11.
  • To provide initial information and guidance to parents in the community and to identify parents and/or children who may benefit from additional input.
  • Connecting parents with City Family service and those delivered by other agencies.
  • To develop and co-deliver health and child development focused workshops.
  • To co-develop health and childhood related health videos and messaging.
  • Working with partners to tackle barriers faced by families and barriers in accessing appropriate services.
  • To contribute to the planning of sessions.
  • To be familiar with the security procedures of venues (e.g. evacuation procedures and risk assessment) and maintain a high level of safety during the sessional delivery.
  • To keep updated on local service provision to best support families.
  • Keep and maintain high quality, accurate records and produce reports and impact statements as required.
  • To be fully compliant with the GDPR.
  • To comply with all organisational policies.
  • To attend supervision, team meetings and training sessions.
What You'll Need

Experience:

  • Sound understanding of safeguarding procedures.
  • Proven experience in working with families, especially those facing disadvantage or vulnerability.
  • Excellent understanding of the social, emotional and development needs of children under 11 and/or working with expectant families to promote healthy pregnancies.
  • Proven experience working with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of recording, monitoring data and retrieving information
  • Experience in facilitating and/or delivering groups based programmes or community focused sessions.

Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • A Level/BTEC educated or equivalent in Health, youth/family work or Early Years, and demonstrable, current, relevant experience and CPD
  • Evident awareness of child development and barriers to healthy child development
  • Knowledge of SET safeguarding procedures .
  • Recognised qualification to deliver group based interventions or training facilitation

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with parents/carers and extended family members.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Good IT skills including use of Microsoft Word, Office, internet and email
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds, and strong communication skills to remove any barriers to access.
Working Pattern Options
  • TBC (Monday to Friday, with evening work included and occasional Saturdays)
Additional
  • Ability to travel across South Essex, with full, clean driver's license and access to a vehicle being desirable
  • 26 days annual leave (pro-rata)
  • Birthday leave (1 day)
  • 1 additional day in December (for business close down)

As part of the training, our managers accessed modules based on the topics of pregnancy loss, fertility, flexible working and eliminating bias to better understand the use of language, ways to support members of staff and increase knowledge base around these specific topics.
