CNC Machinist

Location: Northamptonshire

Contract Length: 6 or 12 months

Start Date: Immediate

Shift Pattern: Early/Late shifts

We are currently seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to join our client on a 6 or 12-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, producing high-quality precision components to tight tolerances.

Open to PAYE, umbrella or Ltd contractors for this vacancy. Do have some flexibility of rates, looking at around £30 p/h.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set, operate, and adjust CNC machines - 5 axis machining
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Carry out tool changes, offsets, and basic program edits where required
  • Inspect finished components using measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges)
  • Ensure work is completed to quality standards and within production deadlines
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Experience working to tight tolerances
  • Carry out quality checks
  • Experience with specific controls - Fanuc or Heidenhain

The CNC Setter role

The client is willing to consider either a CNC Miller or Turner.

Responsibilities
  • Set and operate CNC milling and CNC turning machines (3-, 4-, and 5-axis where applicable)
  • Work from detailed engineering drawings and CAD models to produce components to tight tolerances
  • Perform in-process inspections using appropriate measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, CMM)
  • Adjust tooling, offsets, and machine parameters to ensure optimal cutting performance and part quality
  • Machine free-issue parts such as castings, forgings, and fabrications, ensuring proper fixturing and process control
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying process optimisations and tooling improvements
  • Maintain clean, organised, and safe workstations in line with company and industry standards
  • Collaborate with the team leader, quality engineers, and production planners to meet production deadlines
Previous Experience
  • Strong background in either CNC milling or CNC turning
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical/engineering drawings
  • Experience working to tight tolerances and small batch work
  • Online programming and ability to read G codes is desirable
  • Experience with Fanuc controls
