A leading motorsport engineering team in Brackley seeks an experienced CFD Engineer to develop and improve non-F1 aerodynamic solvers. This role involves creating roadmaps for CFD tools and collaborating closely with specialists to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Candidates should have a strong background in CFD methodologies, ideally supported by a PhD or PostDoc experience. The workplace offers a vibrant culture and numerous benefits, including a competitive bonus scheme and well-being initiatives.
CFD Engineer – Non-F1 Solver
Brackley, UK
Mercedes was born to race - and we've been doing it since 1901. Today, the Mercedes‑AMG PETRONAS F1 Team competes at the pinnacle of motorsport: the FIA Formula One World Championship. The pioneering spirit of our company founders lives on in our commitment to innovation and performance. As the world's original automobile manufacturer, Mercedes‑Benz has defined the cutting edge of technology for over a century. Today, our F1 team exists to demonstrate the best of the brand's performance on the global stage.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced CFD Engineer to join our Team, working on methodology for our non‑F1 projects.
In this role, you’ll help develop our CFD solvers: improving the fidelity and efficiency of the toolset used by our aerodynamicists to develop high‑performance vehicles.
It’s a great time to join us. Working closely with key stakeholders, you’ll play a pivotal role in evolving our tools from concept to deployment, making a tangible impact on the processes used by our non‑F1 Aerodynamics Group.
Your responsibilities will include:
Creating a roadmap for non‑F1 aerodynamic CFD solver, aligned with project goals and requirements for our future toolset
Improving the efficiency and fidelity of the CFD aerodynamic solvers that are applied to non‑F1 projects
Working independently and with other specialists to design, develop, implement, benchmark, test and validate new capabilities in a robust fashion
Maintaining and improving existing toolsets
Our offices are located at our campus in Brackley, United Kingdom.
You have an established record developing CFD solvers for aerodynamic flows, with experience of:
Developing and adapting finite‑volume CFD solvers running on state‑of‑the‑art hardware, to deliver toolsets that are robust, accurate and offer significant improvements in efficiency
Best‑practice in using different CFD techniques to simulate real aerodynamic flows, including alternative approaches and their limitations
Your knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art solver methods and your skills in implementing them may have been gained through experience in a professional position or in an academic setting (eg PhD or PostDoc in the field of CFD methodology).
With an open and honest communication style and broad overview of your subject, you relish collaborating in a team setting and enjoy discussing technical concepts. You are equally comfortable working on your own, applying your reflective nature, interpretive skills, attention to detail and dependable judgment to understand complicated problems then propose and evaluate quality solutions in a timely fashion. Looking to fulfil your potential, you are keen to develop yourself further in a demanding role, excited about constantly learning while fostering the understanding of others.
Experience of working in a high‑performance environment such as motorsport is not required: we are more focussed on your potential to deliver at the highest level, applying your skills and understanding to practical data problems.
Our riverside campus is powered by 100% renewably sourced energy and includes an on‑site gym, exercise studio, subsidised restaurant, and on‑site parking with EV chargers.
We also offer a competitive benefits package including a generous bonus scheme, Mercedes car lease scheme, private medical cover, life assurance, and 25 days’ holiday. We pride ourselves on our family‑friendly culture and team‑wide focus on well‑being.
At the core of our performance is our people. Every member of our team plays a part in our success, both on and off the track. We foster a high‑performance, innovative culture where collaboration, respect and excellence are expected and celebrated.
