Job description

The Buyer will support the procurement of upgraded and traded timber products and services for Metsa Wood UK Ltd, reporting to the Head of Timber Procurement.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the supply chain department to determine purchasing requirements and provide them to the supply base.
  • Routinely source and negotiate purchase requirements with the supply base.
  • Actively identify and build subcontracting partners for outsourced requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Timber Procurement to create purchase contracts.
  • Monitor active purchase contracts and supplier performance to ensure they are delivered on time and in full.
  • Liaise with Sales, Operations and Finance to maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure all purchasing aligns with Metsa Wood UK Sustainability policies and targets.
  • Monitor product quality, report deviations and work with suppliers to continuously improve quality.
  • Follow and align the Category sourcing and purchasing process with Metsa Group’s source‑to‑sign and request‑to‑pay processes.
  • Provide market updates and reports to the wider business as required.
  • Identify and evaluate potential new suppliers and products that could enhance the supply base to support the business’s long‑term growth plans.
  • Maintain product specifications for the products.
  • Contribute to the responsible profitability of Metsa Wood UK through close collaboration with sales, operations and finance departments.
  • Ensure wider Metsa Group procurement policies and KPIs are adhered to and followed.
  • Support the development of various categories to ensure business growth plans are achieved.
  • Identify risks within the supply chain and develop plans to mitigate these risks.

  • Purchasing experience within a complementary product category.
  • Experience working with multiple suppliers.
