Who we are: We are a small, specialist SEND school, set up to provide purposeful learning for students aged 11 to 17 years in a therapeutic environment. CCS Essex is based in a tranquil, rural location in Little Clacton, Essex. We have 5 classrooms, including a separate therapy room, facilities for cooking lessons, outdoor space for recreation, PE, and break/lunchtime activities. Our students have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and may also have other SEND such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.
As a trauma- and attachment-informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support. Our approach places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring collaboration between education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and students to achieve outstanding outcomes.
We are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships, and motivating students.
We require a Teacher with the ability and willingness to teach English and/or Maths to GCSE level. Regardless of the accreditation which is best for the child, we maintain high aspirations and recognise the importance of qualifications to provide life chances and opportunities.
Compass Community School teachers inspire children, creating a sense of awe and making subjects and lessons real and relevant. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities that challenge students, whether they are working on basics or have a special talent or passion for the subject.
Our children require special teachers who can manage complex and challenging behaviours. They will need ample attention, the right communication, consistency, flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.
We want teachers to be part of the decision-making that drives our school, provides outcomes for children, and advocates for every child. We welcome their input in developing both the academic curriculum and opportunities in our extra-curricular offer, bringing their own interests and passions to the table.
We reserve the right to close an advert early if we identify suitable candidates.
Compass Community Schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment and hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau) and undergo due diligence checks on social media use.
All school-based staff have the responsibility for promoting safeguarding and welfare. All staff should be aware of the school's Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and work in accordance with it.
Compass is an equal-opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. As we grow, we seek talented employees from diverse backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, and experiences to support our children and young people.
Compass Community School Essex is an independent secondary school for boys and girls Y7–Y11 in North Essex. Building relationships with pupils is central to our therapeutic approach. Small pupil numbers and a high staff ratio help create a nurturing environment for student progress.
Our highly trained education team works with parents, carers, multi-agency professionals, key workers and programme psychologists to support our young people with challenging behaviours and experiences. Our curriculum is developmentally sequential with high expectations of progress.
All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure safeguarding. All positions involve appropriate checks and clearances.
