Job description
Role
  • Process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Microbiology using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples.
  • Provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to the appropriateness of tests and time‑scales.
  • Be responsible for own work and use specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems.
  • Act as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participate in training/supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
What we'll need you to bring
  • State registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
  • BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
  • Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline‑specific procedures.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, e.g., a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.
  • Cross‑site working to be expected.
  • Must participate in days, evenings, weekends and on‑call duties.

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Location and Working Pattern

This role involves cross‑site working and will be based between University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Monklands & University Hospital Wishaw.

The working pattern for this role includes days, evenings and weekends.
