Job summary

A leading NHS Trust is seeking a motivated Accredited Clinical Coder (Band-5) to join their clinical coding team. Qualifications

Placing Talent are pleased to be working with a large NHS Trust who are looking to recruit a motivated Accredited Clinical Coder (Band-5) to join their clinical coding team on a permanent basis.

This role on offer is a fantastic opportunity for an individual looking to enhance their clinical coding skills and work alongside a collaborative team of clinical coding professionals seeking to deliver the best outcomes for the Trust. This role is fully remote.

  • Salary: £31,049 - £37,796 (Band-5)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours during core working hours.
  • Region: East of England (remote)
Specialities but not limited to

General Medicine, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Elderly, Paediatrics, Respiratory, Cardiology, Dermatology.

Medicode (Encoder), Lorenzo (PAS), the Trust is moving over to a new EPR system in October 2025 known as EPIC.

Overview of responsibilities
  • To abstract and analyse complex clinical information from patient records and translate this into a coded format in line with National Standards.
  • To have a high level of knowledge of Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology.
  • To enter the final encoded data onto the appropriate computer systems to meet essential Trust requirements for statutory information and payment flows.
  • The post holder will work as part of a team of experienced trained and trainee staff and the job will involve rotation between duties working on all specialties.
  • Deal with enquiries from all parts of the hospital.
  • Locate source documents; read histology, cytology and radiology reports.
  • Analyse complex medical information from paper documents and via other computer systems.
  • Ensure that patient records are processed in the correct manner and tracked to appropriate destinations using the computer tracking system.
  • Act as mentor and assist in the education of less experienced coders.
  • To be aware of wider information and patient administration service systems.
  • To ensure that computer and paper records are passed for remedial action or processed in the correct manner.
Essential Criteria
  • National Clinical Coding Qualification.
  • Up-to-date Clinical Coding Standards Refresher Course attendance.
  • All applicants must complete a coding assessment to demonstrate suitability for the role.
  • Three years + UK clinical coding experience within an acute NHS setting.
  • Experience coding a range of surgical and medical specialties.
  • Available to work 37.5 hours per week across Monday - Friday.
