Position Overview

Responsible for planning and delivering the activity and excursion programme for international students.

  • Full‑time summer role, mid‑June to mid‑August
  • Represent MLA values
  • Six days per week with one day off each week
  • Residential employment from 27 June to 1 August 2026 (possibility of extension)
Requirements

Essential

  • UK passport or right to work in the UK plus a valid DBS (England & Wales) or PVG (Scotland); if based outside the UK, a criminal record check from your country of residence
  • Proven suitability to work with students under 18 – at least two references

Desirable

  • Summer School experience in the UK or Ireland
  • First Aid certificate
  • Sports or coaching training
  • Volunteering experience
  • Involvement in active groups such as scouts, trekking or sports

Schedule

Shifts vary across mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Staff may work a morning and afternoon shift one day, followed by an afternoon and evening shift the next. Contracts run up to 44 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, with one full day off. Hours are confirmed and signed off weekly.

Key Position Accountabilities
  • Prepare and set up activities and excursions, both on‑site and off‑site
  • Read and adhere to all risk assessments
  • Review itineraries and learn about attractions
  • Complete Safeguarding and Prevent Training Level 1
  • Lead, supervise, motivate and engage students on activities and excursions
  • Encourage participation in planned daytime and evening activities
  • Assist in organising and preparing a wide range of activities, excursions and pastoral care
  • Brief group leaders and students on activities, rules and safety
  • Assist with airport transfers and welcome group leaders and students
  • Lead campus tours and support accommodation organisation
Training & CPD
  • Complete all pre‑employment training
  • Attend in‑person induction training and actively participate in discussions
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Support group leaders with needs and questions
  • Monitor communication channels
  • Assist centre administration with photocopies, errands and activity preparation
  • Collect and return registers accurately and timely
Safeguarding & Welfare
  • Promote student welfare and comply with the Safeguarding Policy
  • Provide safety and welfare assistance to students
  • Vigilance for possible welfare problems
  • Inform the Centre Director or Welfare Manager of any absences immediately
  • Report any issues affecting student safety, wellbeing or academic performance
  • Be aware of relevant fire, health and safety issues at the centre
Compensation

Non‑Residential Activity Leaders earn GBP 13 per hour. Holiday pay and additional rates bring the inclusive hourly rate up to GBP 14.56. Bonuses of GBP 150 may be paid after completing the full four‑week contract. Travel expenses may be covered if relocation to another centre is required.
