Learning, Teaching and Scholarship Post

Job Purpose

To deliver teaching and assessment in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS), particularly on courses related to: Bio-business, entrepreneurship, clinical trials or science communication. To teach and actively contribute to the knowledge, understanding and skills of students in the College of MVLS. Work within a team to ensure academic delivery in this area and to contribute as required to the general academic administrative duties of taught programmes. To liaise with academic colleagues within MVLS and University-wide, to develop a vibrant and attractive course portfolio providing excellent training and student experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work with clusters of programmes to contribute to the re-development of programme plans andimplement the development and co-ordination of new academic content.
  • Contribute to course creation, development and delivery, including tutoring support, within theprogrammes. Working with teams of academics and in coordination with the education hub administrative team as required.
  • Support the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, inaccordance with the University’s Quality Enhancement Strategy, so that the educational opportunities available to students are maintained at the University’s high standards. Contribute to the design and coordinate the implementation of new teaching and learning approaches.
  • Engagement in scholarship to support teaching and student support activities and applying up-to date research to all teaching. Ensuring necessary input of expert material into courses fromcontributing academics and external sources where required.
  • Maintain and develop knowledge in the subject area through liaison with the schools in the college.
  • Keep abreast with advancements in technology, their applications, and continually updating bothknowledge and skills in support of teaching excellence as appropriate to the subject area.
  • Provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning; and toensure that appropriate structures are built into the programme to ensure a consistent approach from all contributors.
  • Provide support to colleagues to aid development of teaching and contribute to the ongoingdevelopment and design of the current programmes run by the College of MVLS.
  • Work with colleagues in other areas of the University to provide consistent teaching, assessment,and feedback across our programmes.
  • Participate in recruitment and conversion, induction, and orientation activities as appropriate.
  • Undertake other teaching related duties as requested by the Dean of Learning & Teaching or delegate.
  • For Appointment at Grade 7: Undertake other related duties, including management and leadership activities, as requested by the Dean of Learning & Teaching or delegate.
  • Participate in the performance and development review processes, as appropriate, in accordance with university strategy.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the College Education Strategy.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

  • A1. A first degree in a relevant subject area to MVLS.
  • A2. Specialist knowledge of bio-business or entrepreneurship or a related subject area to aid the ability to coordinate and develop teaching in these areas.
  • A3. A Master’s degree in a relevant subject area to MVLS.

For appointment at Grade 7:

  • A4. A PhD in a relevant subject area to MVLS or equivalent teaching experience.

Desirable:

  • B1. Knowledge of university academic policy and procedures.
  • B2. Knowledge of e-learning, teaching methodology, learning design and pedagogy.

Skills

Essential:

  • C1. Excellent interpersonal, organisational, presentation and communication (written and oral) skills with the ability to deal with issues using tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • C2. Enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning, including communication with students and academic staff.
  • C3. Ability to use initiative and to exercise independent judgement.
  • C4. Possess proven time, project, and people management skills.
  • C5. Ability to work proactively, multi-task and show a high degree of responsibility.
  • C6. Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.

Experience

Essential:

  • E1. Experience of delivering postgraduate teaching in disciplines related to MVLS PGT programmes.

For Appointment at Grade 7:

  • E2. Experience of delivering postgraduate teaching and assessment in disciplines related to MVLS PGT programmes.

Desirable

  • F1. Experience of co‑ordinating a teaching programme.
  • F2. Experience of developing teaching content.
  • F3. Record of accomplishment in published research and/or delivery of teaching in a subject related area.
  • F4. Experience of working in virtual learning environments.
  • F5. Experience of teaching in an international institution or with international students.
Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.

This post is full time and fixed term for up to 3 years.
