At NNUH it is our privilege to provide healthcare to over one million people across Norfolk and surrounding areas. Our vision is to ‘provide the best care for every patient’, and if this inspires you and you share our values, we really want you to join our team.

NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre.

Our values support our vision and guide the behaviour of everything we do, these are:

People-focused

We look after the needs of our patients, carers and colleagues, to provide a safe and caring experience for all.

Respect

We act with care, compassion and kindness and value others’ diverse needs.

Integrity

We take an honest, open and ethical approach to everything we do.

Dedication

We work as one team and support each other to maintain the highest professional standards.

We continuously learn and improve to achieve the best outcomes for our patients and our hospital.

We want all our staff to achieve a balance between work and personal life and understand how important flexible working can be. We welcome applications on a full or part time basis, various shift patterns and hybrid working, where roles allow.

At the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH), we know the benefits diversity can bring to our organisation such as creativity, innovation and compassion. All of which have a direct impact towards our staff and patient experience. We are committed to being a Hospital for All – being equitable and inclusive, and a place where all feel a sense of belonging. We therefore particularly encourage and welcome applications from candidates who are underrepresented in NNUH’s workforce. These include people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, people with diverse abilities and people within the LGBT+ community.

Job overview

We would like to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic podiatrist to join our multidisciplinary diabetic foot team based at the Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust. There is the possibility of there being more hours available on fixed term basis and this can be discussed at interview.

This is a really exciting opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary diabetic foot team which is one of the largest in the East of England and we see over 700 new patients and 6500 follow-ups per year, all of whom have complex foot disease.

What we can offer:

You will join a team of seven podiatrists. We can offer real variety in different sub‑specialty working alongside consultants’ colleagues in diabetes, microbiology, renal, vascular, plastics, and orthopaedic surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

However, being based in one of the UK’s leading research hospital the role of a podiatrist can become so much more. We are actively involved in several large multicentre research projects and publish widely on many aspects of diabetic foot disease. This would give the successful applicant the opportunity to participate in the ongoing research and contribute to the department’s ongoing research strategy.

Main duties of the job

To support the Principal Podiatrist in the daily operational and financial management of the team. You will provide clinical leadership within the specialty including educational, professional and managerial guidance. You will be responsible for the daily clinical supervision of junior team members, podiatrist on rotation or students in outpatients, and other support staff within the team both administrative and clinical.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the diabetic foot service providing specialist outpatient and inpatient podiatry services to patients with acute diabetic foot complications in a busy clinical environment. You work as part of the team in dedicated medical, renal and surgical clinics and ward rounds.

You will undertake advanced wound care, casting and pressure assessment techniques.

You will be required to order, interpret and advise on the results of microbiology, radiology and laboratory investigations. You will utilise the department’s PGDs and policies on the administration of intra‑muscular antibiotics.

You will help lead clinical research and audit being carried out within the department. The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a teaching Hospital; therefore, you will be actively involved in the development and delivery of education material.
