About the Role

Do you have experience working with Children, Young people and their families with mental health difficulties?

Are you looking to enhance your skills and work within a supportive and experienced team?

We are looking for a Clinical or counselling Psychologist to join the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Mental Health Support Team (MHST) on a part-time basis.

You would be joining an MHST team of dedicated staff working in schools across BANES, offering Low Intensity CBT for mild/moderate anxiety and low mood, as well as a whole school approach.

You would be offering 1:1 therapy for CYP with moderate MH needs that exceed/do not fit with Low Intensity as well as providing Clinical Skills and Case Management supervision and support to colleagues trained in Low intensity CBT.

If you do not currently possess a post graduate certificate in Supervision, you will be enrolled on the one year part time post graduate supervisors course in order to meet the requirements of this role.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the many exciting service developments currently underway. We have close links with the University of Bath and University of Oxford Doctorate courses.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining either the BANES Mental Health Support Team, a constantly evolving service which is committed to adapting to meet diverse and challenging demands and to maintaining high quality specialist assessment and intervention whilst being mindful of throughput, innovation and efficiencies. The work can be fast paced with a need to be flexible but also highly rewarding. You will support the model of high volume low intensity as well as offer more intense support to those CYP with more complex needs.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable, and resourceful individual who is committed to supporting developing services as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will need excellent communication and organisational skills, and a keenness to be part of a busy and vibrant service.

  • Work closely with the Clinical Psychology Lead, Senior Wellbeing Practitioners, Supervisors, Education Mental Health Practitioners and Child Wellbeing Practitioners to assess, formulate, plan and deliver evidence based treatment for a wide variety of mental health presentations with varying complexity.
  • Deliver supervision to the teams Senior Wellbeing Practitioners and Supervisors (Training will be provided if you do not hold a current qualification)
  • Support the team with service delivery initiatives and projects where appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Person specification
  • Doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Current HCPC registration as a Clinical / Counselling Psychologist
Knowledge
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, day services and in patient settings.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of running / co-running groups
  • Experience of working with people with conditions appropriate to the post.
Skills
  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
  • A positive approach to working with children, adolescents and families.
  • Ability to communicate/listen formally and informally, verbally and in writing
