Job description

We have exciting opportunities for two Asset Data Analysts to join our newly established Asset Intelligence and Data Science Team.

In this role, you’ll report to the Asset Intelligence and Modelling Manager and play a pivotal part in driving improvements to the performance of assets and circuits across National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED). Your work will help shape strategic decisions through data-driven insights and innovative modelling.

The position is ideally based in Bristol, though we’re open to considering other locations within our licence area. As part of our hybrid working approach, you’ll enjoy a blend of office and home working. This is a full-time role, but we’re happy to explore flexible working patterns. Occasional travel to other sites may be required.

Main Responsibilities

Data Analysis

  • Extract and wrangle data from multiple sources to uncover insights, correlations, and patterns.
  • Organise and transform complex information into clear, structured formats.
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data to predict trends and inform decision‑making.
  • Perform statistical analysis to support modelling and forecasting.
  • Use advanced tools and techniques to visualise data in intuitive formats, such as dashboards and graphs.
  • Monitor the health of the asset data lifecycle, implementing improvements and removing corrupt data.
  • Track and evaluate ongoing model performance to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Support cost‑benefit assessments for potential projects and measure benefits of implemented initiatives.
  • Contribute to project management activities for data‑driven initiatives.

Reporting & Presenting Insights

  • Prepare clear, impactful reports and present findings to management and cross‑functional teams.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance asset, circuit, and incentive performance.
  • Drive process and procedure improvements through inquisitive, data‑led analysis.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and quality at every stage.
Ideal Candidate
  • Proven experience in a data analyst or similar role, with a strong track record of turning complex data into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Microsoft Excel for querying, manipulating, and analysing large datasets.
  • Skilled in data visualisation and storytelling using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to work with large and complex datasets, applying statistical and analytical techniques to uncover trends and patterns.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and tailor insights to different audiences.
  • Experience using data visualisation tools to create dashboards (e.g. Power Bi) and reports that drive decision‑making.
  • A degree in Engineering, Data Science, or another quantitative discipline is preferred (or working towards this level).
  • Familiarity with NGED’s asset data models and systems (e.g. Crown, Electric Office, IRIS) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NGED asset operations and network operations would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of the Common Network Asset Indices Methodology and Network Asset Risk Metrics process would be beneficial.

Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment.
