Black Country Living Museum is seeking a Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our Historical Buildings and Site Conservation Team. The role involves planning maintenance projects, carrying out repairs on historic buildings and structures, and learning to blend modern and traditional building techniques.
- Undertake repairs and maintenance across museum buildings and site structures, using carpentry, plumbing, brickwork, groundwork and gardening skills.
- Operate tools, equipment and plant safely in compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Work on historic buildings using traditional methods and materials.
- Assist in the take‑down of buildings/structures off‑site and their rebuild on the museum site.
- Support general site work as required.
- Provide electronic help‑desk administration.
- Participate in setting up, operating and dismantling museum events.
- Operate company vans on and off site, collecting and delivering materials and equipment.
- Self‑motivated with comprehensive understanding of construction and/or relevant trade qualifications (NVQ or City & Guilds).
- Willingness to learn, proactive attitude towards construction and general maintenance operations.
- Confident IT skills for documenting completed work and ordering materials.
- Collaborative, sharing knowledge and information with staff and volunteers.
- Full UK driving licence.
