Job description

Are you motivated to create impact on a global scale? If so, we want you!

We’re Neutreeno, a world leader in resource and emissions flow mapping for global supply chains. Born out of the University of Cambridge’s Department of Engineering, we believe that climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. Frustrated with the ever-widening gap between climate ambition and on-the-ground action, Neutreeno was founded by leading climate scientists and engineers to close this gap by building a software that unlocks rapid decarbonisation. We believe that there is a massive opportunity to drive efficiencies and cost reductions on a scale never seen before by embedding data and emissions intelligence into the core of how businesses and supply chains operate.

We’re a fast-moving team that values EQ just as much as IQ. Autonomy, high-ownership, speed and no-ego collaboration are at our core. We seek people who care deeply and are eager to work on solving problems bigger than themselves.

The Role

As Neutreeno’s first in-house UX/UI Designer, you’ll lead Neutreeno’s user experience. This is not a typical design role as our platform sits at the intersection of climate science, engineering, supply chain modelling and large‑scale data analytics. We are looking for someone who can rapidly learn complex domain concepts, make sense of data‑rich workflows, and translate them into clean, modern and powerful user experiences.

You’ll work together with software, commercial and engineering teams; collect requirements from users and stakeholders and translate them into user journeys, wireframes, and development‑ready, validated mockups. This is a role for someone who thrives taking ownership of the entire UX/UI experience; onboarding stakeholders to their vision; pursuing exceptional design amidst competing priorities; and ready to make immediate impact at the intersection of product design, business and engineering.

As part of a dynamic and fast‑paced startup, you’ll thrive on the challenge of building something extraordinary—tapping into and leveraging your proven expertise in UX/UI design. You’ll have the opportunity to shape user experiences from the ground up and create exceptional digital experiences. Your work at Neutreeno will directly impact companies around the world.

This part‑time position (25–30 hours per week) requires in‑house collaboration with 2–3 days per week in our Cambridge office depending on your schedule, with potential to convert to full‑time. Exceptional London‑based candidates will be considered with a 2‑day per week office requirement.

The Work You’ll Do
  • As both a problem solver and a skilled and creative interaction designer, you’ll specify UX and UI requirements, create designs and prototypes components and interactions, and work together with engineers to bring them to life
  • Own the strategic planning and execution of user experience improvements across Neutreeno’s software and its different users. You will work with software, engineering and stakeholders to understand the larger context of how your product is being used and find holistic solutions for specific problems to ensure alignment to business goals
  • You’ll conduct comprehensive UX research to understand user needs, pain points, and behaviours. You’ll also facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions to gather insights, then iterate designs based on feedback and data‑driven insights
  • Work closely with engineers to understand technical constraints, ensuring solutions are practical, implementable, and aligned with underlying models. Further, you’ll develop a deep understanding of emissions models, data structures, supply‑chain flows, and customer workflows, quickly building comfort with highly technical concepts
The Minimum Qualifications You’ll Need
  • University degree in Human‑Computer‑Interaction (HCI), Information Design, Communication Design, Engineering, Psychology or similar
  • 5+ years of proven UX/UI experience in a B2B SaaS environment
  • Proficient in Figma
  • Strong portfolio showcasing previous work on complex products and projects
  • You have a very solid grasp of interaction design, usability engineering and testing, gestalt principles and can communicate to teams and stakeholders how those factors will influence the design process and outcomes
  • You are familiar with usability principles and techniques, and you are skilled in using Figma for the various stages of design—wireframing and high‑fidelity designs, prototyping, and testing, as well as specification and documentation for design handoff processes
  • Proficiency translating complex information into user‑friendly designs
  • You have outstanding communication skills, are fluent in English and can collaborate with multiple stakeholders in an agile environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in early‑stage startups (Seed to Series A), with a preference for those who have been part of an early team and thrive in fast‑moving environments
  • Passion for sustainability and an understanding of the decarbonisation landscape
  • User research experience including interviews, usability testing and analytics tools
  • Experience developing and designing brand‑consistent templates and layouts for ongoing marketing needs (case studies, sales decks, one‑pagers, and other promotional content)
Compensations & Benefits
  • £45,000 – £60,000 (pro‑rated for 25–30 hours per week) dependent on your skills, qualifications and experience
  • Stock option plan so you can become a co‑owner in the business
  • Company pension with NEST
  • Leading private health insurance with WPA (the only Which? Recommended Provider for Private Medical Insurance for two consecutive years)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Purpose – a shared mission worthy of your time
  • A hybrid work model that fosters both teamwork and individual flexibility (2 days remote per week)
  • Remote working allowance (2 weeks per year)
  • Work from Neutreeno HQ at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, recognised by the Financial Times as one of Europe’s leading startup hubs (complete with an awesome rooftop terrace for summer socials)
Culture & Growth
  • Join a fast‑growing company (200%+ YoY team growth) that recently raised a $5M seed round, with momentum continuing to build
  • An open‑minded culture with a flat hierarchy and everyone vectoring in the same direction and where ideas and ownership matter
  • Clear company values rooted in Stoic and Zen principles
  • Incredible professional development and rapid growth opportunities
  • A growing team of Neutreeno‑ers from diverse backgrounds (12 different nationalities) to learn from and work alongside
  • Great on‑site amenities (unlimited free coffee, weekly events with global sustainability leaders…)
  • Regular team socials (typically every 2 weeks) to connect beyond work
  • The unique opportunity to work with some of the world’s best and brightest minds in climate science and engineering to make a real impact on global decarbonisation efforts
