A charity organization in the UK seeks a Treasurer to oversee its financial health and sustainability. Candidates should be qualified accountants with experience in financial management, ideally within the charity sector. This volunteer position offers a chance to make a real difference to the lives of destitute mothers and children in Bangladesh.
Join to apply for the Treasurer (Advisor / Trustee) - Volunteer role at Sreepur Village, Bangladesh
Since 1989, Sreepur Village has supported destitute single mothers and children in Bangladesh. We seek a Treasurer to oversee our financial health, manage budgets and investments, and help secure our long‑term sustainability.
What difference will you make? Your financial expertise will directly impact the lives of vulnerable single mothers and their children. As our Treasurer, you will help us ensure that Sreepur Village can continue to provide a safe home, education, healthcare and vocational training to the families who desperately need us. Since 1989, we have been the only residential charity offering this comprehensive support, and your work will help secure this lifeline for future generations.
By strengthening our financial controls and reporting systems, you will give us the stability and confidence to plan ahead. Your oversight of our investments and budget management will help us make the most of every pound donated, ensuring that funds reach the families who need them most. You will help us navigate the complexities of managing a UK charity supporting work in Bangladesh, including currency fluctuations and international financial governance.
Your strategic input will shape our long‑term sustainability, helping us build reserves and diversify our income so that we are not vulnerable to funding changes. This means mothers and children will have consistent, reliable support as they rebuild their lives. You will see the tangible results of your work in every family that graduates from our programme equipped with skills, confidence and hope for the future.
This is a chance to use your professional skills to create lasting change. You will be joining a committed board at a time when your expertise is genuinely needed, working alongside passionate people who care deeply about our mission. The difference you make will be real, measurable and life‑changing.
What are we looking for? We are looking for a qualified accountant with proven competence in financial management at a senior level. This might be someone who has worked as a Finance Director, Chief Financial Officer, or senior accountant with experience in strategic financial planning, budget management, and financial reporting. Your technical skills and professional qualifications in these areas will be essential as we strengthen our financial systems and ensure long‑term sustainability.
Experience working in a charity or committee environment is important to us. You will need to be familiar with Charity Commission reporting and requirements, understanding the unique governance and compliance needs of the charity sector. If you have experience as a trustee or treasurer for another charity, that would be valuable, but we are also open to qualified accountants who are taking on their first trustee role if they have the right professional background and enthusiasm to learn.
Beyond your professional credentials, we are looking for someone who is genuinely compassionate towards and understanding of our mission, vision and values. You will need to care about supporting destitute single mothers and their children in Bangladesh, believing in the dignity and potential of every family we serve. We want someone who will champion our work and bring heart as well as expertise to the role.
Ideally, you will have visited a country similar to Bangladesh or have knowledge and understanding of similar cultures. This helps with understanding the context in which we work and the challenges our families face. However, if you have not had this experience but are genuinely interested in learning, we would still encourage you to apply. What matters most is your commitment to our cause, your financial expertise, and your willingness to contribute meaningfully to our board.
What will you be doing? We are looking for a Treasurer to work closely with our UK Operations Manager and board to oversee the financial health and sustainability of Sreepur Village. Initially, this will be a non‑voting advisor role, giving both the trustee and our board time to ensure it is the right fit before transitioning to a full voting trustee position. Our board currently has seven trustees, and we are actively looking to bridge a gap in finance expertise.
Our new Treasurer will be our main point of contact with investment fund managers, holding monthly budget review meetings with our Operations Manager and ensuring our financial reporting is clear and timely. They will introduce new financial forecasting and reporting systems, review the appointment of auditors, and ensure appropriate risk management is in place. This role is crucial as we work to strengthen our financial controls and reporting systems to support our long‑term sustainability goals.
Beyond financial oversight, our Treasurer will contribute to strategic planning and act as an ambassador for Sreepur Village, attending at least three board meetings a year and fundraising events where possible. They will work directly with our Overseas Director based at the village in Bangladesh, creating that vital link between our UK financial governance and the work on the ground.
