Job Title: Trainee Environmental and Sustainability Advisor

Business Unit: Omexom UK & RoI

Location: Scotland (travel across project sites required)

About Us

Omexom specialises in the design, supply, installation, commissioning, and project management of electrical infrastructure projects for electricity utility companies and renewable energy developers throughout the UK and Ireland. Omexom is part of VINCI Energies UK & ROI, who specialise in the provision of electrical, mechanical, and IT engineering services. In-depth know‑how and ongoing commitment to employee development and training enable the delivery of comprehensive solutions — from design through to installation and maintenance — that meet our clients’ individual requirements.

The Role

The Trainee Environmental and Sustainability Advisor role will require travel across Scotland to visit various project sites as required.

The jobholder will provide support and advice to our operational teams on all aspects of environmental and sustainability management — developing documentation, meeting legal, regulatory, and company standards, and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement.

You will work with clients and regulators to ensure their requirements are met, and support on‑site mitigation, sustainability of works, and engagement with local stakeholders.

As a trainee, full support and training will be provided by the Omexom Environmental Team to develop you to fulfil the responsibilities required of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and support to operational teams on environmental and sustainability matters.
  • Develop relationships with regulators, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Understand and develop relationships with local stakeholders.
  • Support project teams investigating any environmental incidents.
  • Ensure on‑site compliance with environmental legislation and coach teams in applying controls and mitigations.
  • Support sustainability activities for the project and business, including collecting project data and updating the environment and sustainability management systems.
  • Advise on best practice in areas of corporate, ethical, and social responsibility, and address any issues arising.
  • Have an awareness of biodiversity net gain and carbon emissions management in infrastructure, embodied carbon, and associated industry sustainability targets.
  • Provide support to operations and design teams on environmental management, compliance, and project‑specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecology protection.
  • Produce internal and external reports as required, e.g. case studies, environmental and sustainability performance, toolbox talks.
Essential Criteria

The successful candidate must be an excellent communicator — a commercially focused self‑starter with the enthusiasm, motivation, and initiative to succeed in this role.

The Jobholder Must Possess
  • Basic knowledge of environmental management and sustainability issues, including Water Environment, Ecology, and Archaeology.
  • Full UK driver’s licence and flexibility to travel.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible with working from home, office, and site.
  • Self‑motivation and the ability to motivate staff at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish effective networks, both internally and externally.
Desirable Criteria
  • Educated to degree level in Environmental Science or Environmental Management.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of environmental projects.
  • Understanding of the construction operating environment.
  • Membership of an Environmental Body (e.g. IES, IEMA).
  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Experience of data management.
