A local council in Doncaster is seeking a Traffic Engineering Senior Technician to oversee traffic signal infrastructure. The successful candidate will be involved in planning, implementing, and maintaining traffic signal operations. The City of Doncaster Council is a confident, ambitious organisation which puts improving the life of its residents at the centre of everything we do. You have an opportunity to be part of this in the role of Traffic Engineering Senior Technician to work in the Traffic Signals and Control section.
As a Traffic Engineering Senior Technician, you will play a key role in the planning, implementation and operation of traffic signal infrastructure across the city. You will support the delivery of safe, efficient, and sustainable traffic management solutions, contributing to the council’s strategic transport objectives.
In this role, you will support the feasibility, design, and implementation of traffic signal schemes, while overseeing fault diagnosis and coordinating with external contractors for maintenance and repairs. You will monitor traffic flow data to optimise signal timings, ensure compliance with technical standards and health & safety regulations, and contribute to the development of Urban Traffic Control (UTC) and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). You will be required to maintain accurate records of traffic signals and control system parameters.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in electrical / electronic systems and a strong foundation in technical principles. They will demonstrate excellent problem‑solving abilities, approaching challenges with creativity and logical thinking. Clear and confident communication skills are essential, enabling effective collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients. This candidate will be proactive, eager to learn, and committed to delivering high‑quality work in a dynamic environment.
