The Role

As part of the Systems Engineering Team, you will make a real and immediate contribution to UK national security and defence, developing and delivering operational capabilities in the Cyber, Cryptography and Operational Technology domains. Day‑to‑day, you will work closely with customers as a Systems Engineer, applying strong business analysis, consulting, systems thinking and requirements engineering skills. You’ll operate throughout a project's lifecycle, engaging with complex stakeholder sets, scoping and eliciting their needs, engineering these into a structured, disciplined model of the requirements, and driving subsequent development or acquisition of solutions.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Working flexibly either as part of, or leading, a team or singly, delivering customer‑friendly consultancy and business analysis to support internal and external customers in planning and managing acquisition, research or product development activities.
  • Understanding and analysing stakeholder needs and expectations to elicit, capture and manage their requirements for a capability.
  • Identifying, reporting back on, and developing additional customer business opportunities.
  • Technically leading the planning and management of acquisition, research or product development activity.
  • Leading project teams as a solution develops to ensure it continues to comply with requirements.
  • Analysing requirements and translating them into logical system requirements and constraints.
Essential Experience Of The Senior Systems Engineer
  • Ability to understand and analyse business needs (Operational User / Mission Needs).
  • Ability to work with and support other Project/Systems Engineering and Subject Matter Experts to develop detailed designs and planning.
  • Solid Systems Engineering knowledge; MBSE experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of Cryptography (Crypt‑Key), Vulnerability Research, Cyber Defence, or Cyber Exercising highly desirable.
Essential Qualifications For The Senior Systems Engineer
  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, or proven experience working in an equivalent engineering role.
  • Intention to join/membership of an appropriate professional body.

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Malvern site. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
