The Role
We are seeking skilled Sustainable Mobility Planners at various levels to join our dynamic and growing team in Scotland. You will play a key role in developing and delivering innovative transport initiatives that prioritise active travel, public transport, and new mobility solutions. The successful candidate(s) will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, from policy development, research, innovation tools, appraisal, engagement as well as supporting our client delivery partnerships with lots of other opportunity to further your expertise in the development planning and renewables sector and bring your ideas and thoughts to the table in, providing expert advice to a wide range of clients in Scotland.
This will also be a full remote role as part of our Scotland team, and knowledge of the local markets will be essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy & Strategy Development: Lead/support the research, analysis, and drafting of transport policies, strategies and plans for clients at local, regional, and national levels.
- Business Case Formulation: Develop/support robust business cases (from Strategic to Full Business Case stage) for sustainable transport projects, to inform investment decisions and support funding applications.
- Appraisal and Analysis: Undertake detailed transport analysis and appraisal, in line with Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance, to support strategic advice and policy recommendations.
- Data Analysis: Lead/support on the analysis of datasets, spanning primary and secondary sources, to provide the evidence bedrock underpinning a variety of projects.
- Innovation and Development: Assist in the creation and application of new methodologies and tools, including those for assessing the impacts of emerging mobility solutions.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with clients, government bodies (such as Transport Scotland), and other key stakeholders to align on strategic objectives and project delivery.
- Knowledge Leadership: Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainable mobility.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- A deep and demonstrable understanding of the Scottish transport policy and appraisal context, including key documents, legislation, and government bodies (e.g. Transport Scotland) alongside an appreciation of the wider policy context of direct relevance to sustainable mobility today.
- A degree or post-graduate qualification in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, Economics, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- Being commercially aware
- Significant post-graduate qualification experience.
- Strong technical and analytical skills, with experience in developing transport policies, strategies and business cases in accordance with relevant guidance.
- Familiarity with emerging mobility trends such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS), shared mobility, and micromobility.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling reports.
Desirable Skills:
- Progress towards or eligibility for professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered Transport Planning Professional - CTPP, Chartered Engineer (CEng)).
- Experience with transport modelling, junction modelling and forecasting software.
- Project Management, line management and client liaison (for more senior level roles). Experience in a research, data or an innovation focused role within the transport sector
