Job description
Overview

Bee U is the emotional health and wellbeing service for people, up to the age of 25, living in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

You will be working in the Bee U Intensive Support Team, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, specifically commissioned to work with autistic children and young people experiencing significant distress, who are at risk of hospital admission.

You will provide consultation to colleagues in the ISMHT, and across the BeeU service where required, regarding the communication needs of autistic young people seen by the service.

You will provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy input for autistic young people seen by the ISMHT: to assess, understand, support and promote their unique communication needs and preferences, utilising an experience sensitive and neurodivergence-informed care framework.

This post is a Fixed Term contract for 12 months.

Responsibilities
  • Provide high quality, experience-sensitive, neurodivergence-informed Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) assessment for autistic young people seen in the BeeU ISMHT; supporting better understanding of an autistic child or young person’s unique ‘languaging’ style and communication identity across a variety of environments.
  • Deliver a range of SLT interventions following specific SLT assessment to enable an autistic child or young person to communicate autonomously, authentically, and have agency to express a full range of communication functions, using their preferred communication means and modality across different environments, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
  • Provide psychoeducation to autistic CYP, families, carers and the wider support networks to facilitate insight into their unique communication style and needs.
  • Ensure that interventions are provided in line with NICE Guidance, RCSLT guidelines including other relevant local and national documentation and current evidence-based practice.
  • Responsible for prioritising workload, allocation of work to oneself and other staff, and to cover all levels of priority of work within the service.
  • Make clinical judgements backed up by clinical reasoning and recommendations based on research, and being respectful and inclusive of the lived experiences of autistic people in consultation with multi-disciplinary staff and in accordance with the service specification.
