Taylor Hobson manufactures PC‑based ultra‑precision metrology systems for a broad range of markets globally. Our evolving software platforms emphasize making complex operations easy to use through UI design, fast analysis algorithms, user programming and automation. We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Software Manager to lead talented teams in the UK, India and Germany and further develop our platforms through technology, people and process.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver robust and performant software applications for users of Taylor Hobson metrology instruments, providing a rich UI to visualise instrument and part measurements, user‑created guided sequences, ISO standard analysis and desktop publishing for results.
- Manage a team of software developers and testers in the UK and India, including contractors.
- Oversee project management and full SDLC.
- Interact productively with a multidisciplinary team, including electronic, mechanical and evaluation engineers, project and product managers, and senior management.
- Travel to Germany and India as essential.
Requirements for Consideration
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to communicate effectively remotely, including outside of the UK.
- Track record of people development.
- Knowledge of metrology or similar workflows such as spectroscopy.
Experience / Qualifications
- Experience managing an agile team and general project management.
- Degree in a science or engineering related discipline.
- Experience with source control and branching (e.g. Perforce, Git), automated building and CD/CI (e.g. DevOps, VisualBuild, TeamCity), agile management tools and bug handling (e.g. JIRA, DevOps).
- Experience with software architecture and design of large desktop applications running under Windows OS.
- Experience with software testing, including automation (e.g. TestComplete).
- Experience with software‑hardware interaction, ideally with instrumentation.
