Job Description:

The opportunity:

At Leonardo, we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to develop software for the Raven E-Scan Radar System, which is a key operational capability of the Saab Gripen Next Generation Fighter Jet.

The Gripen NG is one of the most advanced multi‑role fighters in the world and as a software engineer, you will have a significant role in the deployment of new Radar signal processing features, from early concept right through to delivering improvements following flight trials.

For this role we are looking for candidates for both our well‑established software community in our Edinburgh based office, as well as candidates in our brand‑new Newcastle office that has a bit more of a ‘start up’ feel to it.

For more information on our contribution to Raven, check out – https://uk.leonardo.com/en/news-and-stories-detail/-/detail/leonardo-on-board-as-the-saab-gripen-e-takes-to-the-skies

What you will do as a Software Engineer:
  • Be responsible for creating high quality and robust code, fully documenting and recording your work products, keeping them under configuration management and providing plans and reports on progress to your supervisor.
  • Deliver technical reports and documents, as well as generate and present technical presentations to project stakeholders.
  • Be able to follow a project plan and identify key elements within the project plan.
  • Report clear and concise progress to the software team lead and Project and Engineering management.
  • Work alongside and closely with the software & systems team, including system integration teams onto target hardware. Investigate and resolve real integration problems on a complex system.
What we need from you:
  • A desire to bring complex radar signal processing algorithms to life in software.
  • Industry experience and the ability to work independently at a senior level.
  • Experience with the full Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Willingness and desire to work within a multi-disciplined project team.
Demonstrable experience in the following areas will help you stand out:
  • Industry experience or academic knowledge of signal processing techniques.
  • A strong mathematics or scientific background.
  • Developing, optimising and testing high‑performance software solutions using various languages e.g. Matlab, Simulink, C++ and C.
  • Working and delivering software using agile techniques such as Scrum, and tooling such as Jira / Confluence / Bitbucket / Gitlab.
  • Experience with cross‑compiling and developing software for embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of standards such as DO-178C and coding standards such as MISRA C/C++.
  • Past or current experience in heavily regulated industries such as Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, or Oil & Gas.
