Position Summary

The essential functions of the job for the Server, requires, and may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of Viva Senior Living to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Comply with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines, as applicable.
  • Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Must be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment, and above all, maintain the utmost compassion and dignity to the residents and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • In exigent circumstances, the employee may be subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, temporary staffing shortages, etc.).
  • Must adhere to Viva Senior Living’s attendance policies and follow the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must maintain the highest standards in caring and servicing the needs of the residents and residents' family members.
  • Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Server shall provide meals and beverages to residents in the dining room and is responsible for the total resident experience.
  • Involves independent and team responsibilities regarding set-up and clean-up of the dining room for meal service and other prep/closing duties.
  • Take attendance at meals, if assigned.
  • Offer residents beverages prior to meal, including ice water, juice of choice, milk, or other beverages as desired.
  • Ensure that appropriate condiments are available for current meal.
  • Ensure that the dining room is prepared for meal service.
  • Participate in pre-service meeting and tasting to understand the meals being served.
  • Be knowledgeable of menu items including Daily Specials and Special Diet accommodations.
  • Ensure that food order is correct as requested by resident prior to serving their meal.
  • Serve resident meal in courses as often as possible.
  • Ensure resident is satisfied with presentation of meal prior to leaving the table and has everything they need to eat that meal, offering alternatives if desired.
  • Inform kitchen of any resident concerns regarding meal.Remain available during meal service for assistance when/if needed.
  • Notify medical staff immediately on any medical emergency or change in eating habits.
  • Work closely in a team setting with Food and Beverage Director, Dining Room Supervisor, Cooks, fellow dining staff and nursing to assist when needed.
  • Follow community policies and procedures regarding safety standards and food sanitation.
  • Wear appropriate uniform and nametag and adhere to hygiene standards.
  • Clean up vases, change tablecloths if necessary, and wipe down chairs and legs if dirty from mealtime.
  • Must be able to lift a 25‑pound tray overhead.
  • Keep the dining room floor clean and vacuum between all meals.
  • Maintain a positive, welcoming, and accommodating attitude towards residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food and Beverage Director, Dining Room Manager, and Executive Director.
Annual Health Requirements
  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residents.
