About the people and their home

People at Wembdon Rise enjoy a variety of activities. There are ten people who live here, who each have their own unique activities that they enjoy, and goals that they are working towards, which continually evolve with that person over time. These can be taking part in activities such as supporting someone to attend and engage in college courses, attend local social events or clubs to develop relationships, keeping up physical activity through walking, exploring, using the gym, swimming and bike riding. Our team is often supporting people to have days out to places all over the country from Plymouth aquarium to Alton Towers to Madam Tussauds and everything in between. The Wembdon Rise team also help the people we support do their weekly shopping for food, toiletries, household belongings and also take people shopping for things like games or to charity shops. Achieving independence goals with everyday living tasks such as washing and cleaning is a huge part of the day to day. People we support enjoy engaging in high energy singing, dancing, storytelling and other verbal engagement. The above is just a sample of the sheer variety and different things the people who live at Wembdon do day in day out. The home itself has been rated good, all thanks to the teams’ hard work in supporting people to live fulfilled lives, and we pride ourselves on our person-centred support.

As a Support Worker, you would help aid the above by ensuring you have a person-centred approach to your support every day. Being patient, kind and compassionate in your approach to guiding people through day to day is essential. Ensuring good knowledge of the persons communication needs to ensure that they have the best opportunities to achieve independence and communicate their wants, needs and choice is also a big part of the role. You would work well independently, with initiative, to help the people supported achieve but also be able to work collaboratively with a team to look at achieving in the wider perspective and long term goals and aims in line with the people supported wishes.
