Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. This post is intended for a Senior Trainee developing a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery, with an appointment of 6 months to 1 year. The role involves operating on elective and traumatic conditions, audit and research, and continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regular orthopaedic outpatient clinics and operating sessions at UHS hospitals.
  • Supervising treatment of patients within the trust.
  • Carrying out ward rounds as appropriate.
  • Participation in clinical audit within the unit.
  • Active involvement in training and supervision of junior medical staff, including teaching of medical and nursing students.
  • On‑call duties as part of the middle grade rota.
  • Taking responsibility for improving and complying with infection control practices.
Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential Criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement.
  • FRCS (Tr and Orth).
  • Previous orthopaedic training to at least registrar year 4.
Desirable Criteria
  • Higher degree.
  • CCT.
  • ATLS.

Eligibility and Salary

Eligibility to appointment includes a minimum of 6 years of specialty training, holding a relevant higher specialty exam (e.g., FRCP, FRCA, FRCS), and a portfolio demonstrating progression. Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills.
