What You Will Do
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of prospective foster carers, including Form F assessments, special guardianship assessments, and connected persons assessments.
  • Provide expert supervision, support, and guidance to foster carers, ensuring the stability and wellbeing of foster placements.
  • Collaborate with children, families, and other professionals to secure the best outcomes for looked‑after children.
  • Engage in the recruitment and training of new foster carers, including delivering the Skills to Foster training and contributing to fostering events.
  • Present cases to fostering panels and manage panel preparation and follow‑up effectively.
  • Assist foster carers with managing complex and challenging behaviours in children and young people.
  • Contribute to service planning, development, and quality assurance processes within the fostering service.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff or students as appropriate, fostering professional growth and development.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date case records in line with statutory and local requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, reviews, strategy discussions, and other relevant forums, providing valuable insights and contributions.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Social Work degree or equivalent qualification and current registration with Social Work England. Significant post‑qualification experience in children’s social care, preferably within fostering or looked‑after children services, is essential. You will have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and guidance and be capable of carrying out complex assessments with excellent report writing skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills are a must. You should be able to work effectively both independently and within a team. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is critical, along with a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
