Job description
  • 26 weeks paid parental leave after one year and 36 weeks after five years continuous service, regardless of gender.

Senior Operations Coordinator
  • Work collaboratively with UWA, AIMS, CSIRO and WA Government partners to support safe, compliant and effective shared research infrastructure and operations.
  • Full-time appointment on an ongoing basis.
  • Base salary range: $104,243 – $115,661 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The University of Western Australia (UWA) Oceans Institute (OI) brings together more than 380 researchers from across disciplines including oceanography, ecology, engineering, economics, law, governance and social sciences to address critical challenges facing oceans, coasts and estuaries. The Institute works closely with local, state and federal governments, industry, research organisations and communities to generate solutions for the sustainable use of ocean resources.

The role is based within the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC), a flagship collaboration between UWA, the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), CSIRO Oceans & Atmosphere, and the Western Australian Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The IOMRC provides world-class facilities and a unique collaborative environment supporting multidisciplinary marine research across shared infrastructure at the Crawley and Waterman’s Bay sites.

About the opportunity

  • Provide day-to-day operational and technical support across the IOMRC Waterman’s Bay and Crawley sites, including space allocation, infrastructure and maintenance coordination, and contributing to long-term facility operations.
  • Assist marine and ocean research activities by supporting aquatic research and wet-lab operations, laboratory access and safety compliance, equipment procurement and maintenance, and meeting statutory, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support coordination of IOMRC staff and internal procedures, assist governance committees and reporting, and facilitate communication, collaboration, and engagement with partner organisations through briefings, events, and shared operational processes.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a scientific, technical, or operational management field, or equivalent experience, with demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to support complex research operations.
  • Experience supporting operations in research or technical facilities; supporting multidisciplinary research programs and working effectively within team or partnership environments.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in aquatic research systems, wet labs, and research aquaculture; ability to provide technical support and assist with operational troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of OHS, biosafety, biosecurity, chemical management, and animal ethics; experience assisting with risk assessments, safe work practices, compliance documentation, and supporting audits or investigations.
